Writing Wednesday: Getting Hot

Last week, when we had the broken dryer, it was windy, a little cool, and sometimes rainy. This week so far it feels more like the end of May than middle of April. In fact, I managed to get a little sun burn on Monday just from sitting out on the porch reading while the kids played. Tuesday I put up the porch umbrella when I couldn’t take the direct sunlight anymore.

Keeping me company outside while I wrote and the kids played.

Yesterday was the last day of the kids’ week-long break from school. I managed to write two scenes in Playing with Fire before they got up. Normally I would have kept going, but the scenes coming up will be a bit steamy, and my 9 year-old likes to sit there and read while I write(particularly with it being plugged into the tv until we replace the desk chair). So I decided to set that aside at least until they went to bed last night. Then I could play catch-up. I did get one more scene written last night, I’ll catch up on the other’s today.

Speaking of Playing with Fire, it’s WiPPet Time again!! I’ve shared snippets from Corrin’s POV & Silas’. So, I guess now it’s time to get something from Jeremiah’s. For today, I have 33 sentences(4+19+2+0+1+7). Jeremiah is trying to take some college classes around working at the fire department. But, he’s not finding it so easy to balance the two.

Jeremiah stepped into the apartment but stopped when he heard Corrin’s laugh ring out from the kitchen. He’d loved that sound from the first time he’d heard it. But, it had been elusive lately. He wondered how Silas had managed to bring it out. He’d barely spoken to Silas since their kiss the other day. His words had kept ringing in his head, though. Was he right? Did Corrin really think she didn’t deserve him?
That was just ridiculous.
He shut the door behind him and pulled off his boots before walking toward the kitchen. Exhaustion filled every cell of his body. He wanted to hit his bed, but it would have to be coffee for now. He had a class he couldn’t miss in two hours. Most of his professors understood if he missed a class because he had a shift at the station, but there was always one. And this semester that one was definitely Dr. Egleston.
“You are absolutely awful, Silas,” Corrin was saying as Jeremiah stepped into the kitchen, but she was still smiling. Something twisted in him that Silas was the one she was smiling at like that. He wasn’t sure which of them he was more jealous of.
“I try to do my part,” Silas said, grinning back at her. Then, he glanced over at Jeremiah, and his smile softened. “You look like shit. Hard shift?”
Jeremiah nodded. He wasn’t ready to talk about it, though. “I need to shower, change, and get to class. Is there still any coffee?”
“It’s just about out,” Silas said. “I’ll get some more started while you get a shower.”
“Thanks. I won’t be long.” He wanted to say more, do more, but Silas was already turning toward the coffeemaker. It was for the best anyway.
He had to stop wanting more than he could have.

But, is it, Jeremiah? Or can you have everything you want? 😉

    • Hang On – 108 words – Ian didn’t say anything else, but I could still feel him watching me as I focused on the road. Still, I couldn’t help wondering who this person was who he was losing his mind over. And wishing it was me. *hehehe, who says it isn’t?
    • Roman – 109 words – He finished his eggs and washed them down with the rest of his coffee. He pushed back from the table and picked up his plate. “Are you going to help Carlos?” Tereza asked before he could even take a step away from the table.

Sunday Summary: End of the March

Ok, so there really wasn’t a march. And I probably wouldn’t have lasted long if there was(considering the state of my knees lately). I was trying to be clever as it *is* the end of March.

Actually, I used to march and toss a baton. When I was about five. Yeah, that was a while ago. Also, I was never very good at it. I have never been very coordinated. I was going to try to find a picture, but I can’t find the scrapbook I thought I had that it was in.

Yesterday we dropped the kids off at my mother-in-law’s and drove down to Grove City where the motorcycle club we’re a part of was throwing a party. It went all weekend, but we just went down for the day. It was fun, though I was getting overwhelmed by all the voices(not in my head. Just everyone talking and being loud puts my nerves on edge). Plus, it was past my bedtime(seriously I’m usually in bed by 9). Couldn’t fall asleep on the way home, though I had my eyes closed most of the way. May have been the 4 Dr Peppers I drank while we were there(almost everyone else was drinking alcohol, but I’m not a big drinker). The caffeine in Dr Pepper usually doesn’t bother me too much, but I don’t usually drink so much of it at a time either.

Today after church we’re getting pictures taken. My mother-in-law just informed us last weekend that she’d scheduled an appointment for these pictures. No talking to us about it beforehand or anything. I’m…not surprised. Not the first time she’s done something like this. It’s not a huge deal since we didn’t have other plans. But, that’s not the point anyway. I’m not going to get all worked up about it because there’s no point. Just…irritated.

Anyway, my final check-in for March(and beginning of April).

Plotting:

  • Primary: Heart of Christmas(BC Security 3.5) – write back stories, plot summary, and complete Story Toolkit – 14/21 sections(I cut out subplot section for this one) of Story Toolkit. 5579 words so far this month. 554 words this week.
  • Secondary: Still Burning(Hunter Family #4) – Brainstormdidn’t get to this one. Will be moving it to next month once I finish Heart of Christmas as well as the rest of the plotting(or at least a good part of it)

Writing:

  • Primary: Stay a Little Longer – add 45000 words/finish 38 scenes – 42505 words/45000, 44/38 scenes for the month. 7068 words/8 scenes written this week. I didn’t quite hit that 45k goal for the month, but I did write THE END on Friday. It’s at a total of 67604 words. I may end up adding more during revisions(I likely will. Usually do).
    • He tangled his fingers with hers as they continued to watch the kids unwrap more of their gifts. He just knew he was glad he could be here for this moment and all the others. And he prayed he’d be able to stay right here with all of them.
  • Secondary: Side Projects5000 words, edit Chapter 1 of Patrick & Sarah & Chapter 1 of Tavin & Haiwee, read through 9 chapters of Snow White Twist(there’s actually 10, but I read through chapter 1 in February) – 6046/5000 words so far this month. 1327 words this week. have read through 9/9 in Snow White Twist. and I already have one reader lined up for this. If any else would be interested in reading a f/f retelling of Snow White(about 21000 words), let me know. I should have it revised and ready by the end of the month. I’ve started working on these side projects in random order instead of the same order every week. I’ll add them in to this list as I finish the week’s words on each.
    • Snow White Twist – I compiled notes on 10/10 chapters. I have made 98/98 changes. I’ve started my search & destroy mission and weeded through 2/50 words on my list. Probably cut close to 150 words.
    • Mason & Lila – 100 words – Music career? She didn’t have a career. She could sing, she would never deny that. But, that didn’t mean she was good enough to even get a recording contract. And anyway, she was only fifteen. Way too young to make anything of it.
    • Patrick & Sarah – 167 words – She worried, though, what Patrick would think of her for how she handled her sons. She was doing the best she could, but was it really enough?
    • Preggers – 106 words – The other woman reached out and touched her arm gently. “You’re not hurt, are you? I wasn’t watching where I was going. I seem to have that problem these days.”
    • Roman – 130 words – He let out a breath then said, “Morning, Tereza. How are you?” His heart was still scrambling, but he thought he sounded calm and in control at least. He wasn’t sure he’d ever known a teenager, or anyone really, who moved so quietly.
    • Mike & Fadil – 138 words – He’d just had her here over the weekend, and after one night, he missed her already. Her sweet voice and soft kisses. The sound of “I love you, Daddy” when he tucked her in at night. He hadn’t thought he wanted any of that. But, he wouldn’t want to be given the last five years without her.
    • Dougal & Shae – 163 words – The truth was she couldn’t just sit around. Not when she couldn’t get that man– his face, his eyes, his voice– out of her head. “Why do you have to question everyone’s motives?” she asked.“I’m a cop.”
    • Midas’ Daughter – 189 words – And he saw the way her father treated Calla. Using words like whips, leaving her in more pain than he probably would with his fist. And Flip worried it would change to that eventually. He would have thought she’d leave as soon as she turned eighteen. And he never had understood why she stayed.
    • Jacob & Matthew – 121 words – All that mattered was having Jacob with him. If they never had to leave this room, maybe that could work out for them.
    • Hang On – 102 words – So, I’d given up on having any control when he was around.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 111 words – Tavin couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She looked at him, her head tilting to the side. Then, she smiled. He loved the sight of her smile. He’d laugh at himself daily if that’s all it took to bring that out.

Editing:

  • Primary: Stained Blood – 8 new scenes(realized one I had planned was unnecessary so cut it out, and the other I made a paragraph in the next scene, as it didn’t feel worth a whole scene) & apply CP edits to 40 scenes – 8/8 new scenes finished this month. 40/40 scenes edited. 6407 words added this month. 1523 words this week. And I posted another teaser for it on Tuesday. I just have to go through and polish it up and make sure there aren’t any missing details. Then, it’ll be ready for betas.
    • “I don’t recall exactly. I told her I didn’t want her unprotected. She said I wasn’t the boss of her, and I reminded her I am her husband. And”—he swallowed hard— “she compared me to the animal who treated her so badly in the first place.”
“Oh, Barrett,” Jacob said, his voice so soft Barrett was sure he’d find some sympathy here. Then, Jacob shoved his shoulder. “You are such a god-damned idiot.”
  • Secondary: Flames of Renewal(if I get back from CP) – complete CP edits – still waiting to get this back.
    • In the Moonlight – start revisions

Blogging:

  • A-Z posts – draft 24 posts – 11/24 for the month. J, K, L  & M are finished. 3907 words.
  • A-Z posts – edit & format 27 posts – Edited 9/27(almost forgot about the theme reveal post) posts. H is all ready to go. A posted yesterday.

Reading:

  • Listen: 8 books – 5/8 for the month(though I actually finished the 5th on the first of April), 1 this week
    • Fire(Kristin Cashore) – On Chapter 5(audible has these chapters split up weird. There are more than one in what it says is a chapter. So I’m just doing what’s on top of the screen on my phone). It’s interesting, but I’m almost 3 hours in and it doesn’t feel like a lot’s really happened. I’ll give it at least a little longer. I’m almost 6 hours in now and still doesn’t feel like a lot is happening. Taking a break from it to listen to something else.
    • Crocodile on the Sandbank(Elizabeth Peters) – I finished this Saturday morning and really enjoyed it.
  • Read: 31 books – 31/31 for March, 2 for April so far. 8 this week.
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 43/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • Hallowed Ground(Rebecca Yarros) – started this Sunday morning. Finished it Wednesday night. Loved it.
    • And I Darken(Kiersten White) – Started this Monday morning. Finished it Tuesday night. Really enjoyed it, though it was a bit…twisted. Very toxic relationships. Looking forward to the next book.
    • This is True Love(Jamie Wesley) – Started this Tuesday morning. Finished it Tuesday evening. It was a fairly quick read. Really enjoyed it.
    • Secrets of a Summer Night(Lisa Kleypas) – Started this one Wednesday morning. Finished it Wednesday evening. Really enjoyed it.
    • Focus on Me(Megan Erickson) – Started this on Thursday morning. Finished it Thursday afternoon. LOVED IT!!
    • Nobody But You(Jill Shalvis) – Started this on Thursday afternoon. Finished it Friday afternoon. Really enjoyed it.
    • I’ll Meet You There(Heather Demetrios) – Started this Friday afternoon. Finished it just as we dropped the kids off at MiL’s on Saturday. Loved it.
    • Year of the Crocodile(Courtney Milan) – read this on the way down to Grove City yesterday. It was short, but I really liked it.

Crafting:

  • Knit: Georgian Lace Cap
  • Crochet: Cross-over Long DC Hat
  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf & Last Minute Slouchy Hat – realized the slouchy hat uses a loom I don’t have, so I’m cutting it off the list.

And evaluating the year so far:

    • Demons Rising(Gilbert, CO #3) – this title is likely to change
    • Flames of Justice(Flames #2.5)
    • Scars and All(Kurztown #2)

  • Flames of Renewal(Flames #2)
  • Guarding the Heart(BC Security #1)

  • Finish rewriting Midas’ Daughter & revise

  • Start Hawk’s story(Riders of Justice #5)
  • Add 6000 words each to back story novellas – I’ve added about 17420 words to all the short stories I’m working on and have added more to the list. I have 10 on it right now.

Blogging:

  • Just Jot It January – I’m counting this for today’s “jot”, though I may do a separate post from my usual ones depending on what the prompt is. I did like 28/31 posts, I think. So I’ll count it as a success.

  • Story a Day May
  • Story a Day September
  • RoW80 – Keep up to date on my 2x weekly posts as well as commenting on others’ posts

  • Crochet: 9 projects – 3/9
  • Loom: 9 projects – 1/9

Making some good progress for the year so far. Next up, goals for round 2 of RoW80 and April…in another post.

Sunday Summary:

Let’s see, what to talk about up here. Not a lot has happened since Wednesday, when I had a mini-rant about health savings accounts and my husband’s work’s lack of communication. Friday the weather was really nice when the kids got home from school, so they played outside until husband got home with dinner. And went back outside with him after dinner for a couple more hours. And the boy decided to paint his window with mud. Himself, too, by all appearances when he came back inside.

It was pretty nice Saturday morning too, though not quite as warm, so they went out there again for a while. I got pretty much everything on Saturday’s list done early, so I ended up starting on Sunday’s. Needless to say, it’s been a pretty good week for me.

So, even though RoW80 is technically on a break until the beginning of April, I’m still here to share my progress. Next Sunday, I’ll have my wrap-up of the month, as well as next round’s and month’s goals.

Plotting:

  • Primary: Heart of Christmas(BC Security 3.5) write back stories, plot summary, and complete Story Toolkit – 9/21 sections(I cut out subplot section for this one) of Story Toolkit(some of these sections I’ll have to do at least 2 sheets for because of multiple characters, but I’ll put them all in one section). 5025 words so far this month. 2148 words this week. And I wrote a little piece that likely will be included for this for Stream of Consciousness Saturday
  • Secondary: Still Burning(Hunter Family #4) – Brainstorm

Writing:

  • Primary: Stay a Little Longer – add 45000 words/finish 38 scenes – 35437 words/45000, 36/38 scenes for the month(there’s definitely going to be more than this, probably 43 at least). 5781 words/7 scenes this week.
    • Terrall certainly hoped he was right. And that they weren’t putting Paul into more danger. If his choices brought harm to someone again, he wasn’t sure how he’d ever forgive himself
  • Secondary: Side Projects – 5000 words, edit Chapter 1 of Patrick & Sarah & Chapter 1 of Tavin & Haiwee, read through 9 chapters of Snow White Twist(there’s actually 10, but I read through chapter 1 in February) – 4723/5000 words so far this month. 1280 words this week. have read through 9/9 in Snow White Twist. and I already have one reader lined up for this. If any else would be interested in reading a f/f retelling of Snow White(about 21000 words), let me know. I should have it revised and ready by the end of the month. I’ll be adding 2 more stories to my list, one of which just popped into my head one day and then I saw this article this morning, which is kind of similar to the idea(only my characters will meet when they’re already pregnant).
    • Midas’ Daughter – 101 words – Flip had hoped Mr. Midas might one day forget his threats. But, the glares he periodically sent him and the little hints he’d drop, told him that was still not the case. It probably never would be.
    • Patrick & Sarah – 174 words – Just a terror, Sarah had said. Nothing more than a bad nightmare. He glanced back toward the bedroom the two boys shared. He couldn’t say why, but he was sure there was a lot more to it than that.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 85 words – Haiwee shot more words at her cousin, and this time Tavin did catch his own name in there. Then, something else as she gestured back to him.  *I probably would have written more, but I got sidetracked researching. I did find a search engine for the Shoshoni language, though.
    • Roman – 154 words – “Don’t be silly,” she said, and her voice was still soft, still gentle. “We are a family. No matter how we add to it, you and I will always be a family, Roman.
    • Dougal & Shae – 127 words – “I’ll get him,” Shae told her. When she stepped into the living room, she saw her nephew in his swing, banging his fists on the tray. She smiled and headed right for him. “Giving your mama a hard time, are you?” she asked as she lifted him. He instantly grabbed a lock of her hair and pulled.
    • Mason & Lila – 120 words – Lila sighed and glanced down at the text they were supposed to be learning about. Really how was anyone supposed to even care about any of this? It was so boring. There so many better ways she could be spending her time.
    • Jacob & Matthew – 217 words – He was rewarded with Jacob’s smile. That filled him with more warmth than even having his name on the front of a newspaper had ever been able to do.
    • Hang On – 187 words – “You never know with those nymphs,” he said. “One little mistake, and poof, you’re on the nymph’s most wanted list.” *these 2 are cracking me up. I don’t know if this story will go anywhere, but it’s certainly fun so far.
    • Mike & Fadil – 95 words – Sharing that little girl with Jess had certainly taken away a good bit of the control he had over his life. But, he wouldn’t change anything for that. *don’t have much of this to share just yet.
    • Preggers(don’t know this title will stick, but I needed something to call it for now) – 121 words – Here she was just another widow of war. The youngest, and the only one who still carried something of their spouse with her, but it was the one thing that tied them together that mattered.
    • Snow White Twist – I compiled notes on 10/10 chapters. I have made 74/98 changes. I’ve added 36 words.

Editing:

  • Primary: Stained Blood – 10 new scenes & apply CP edits to 40 scenes – 6/10 new scenes finished this month. 24/40 scenes edited. 4884 words added this month. 1424 words added this week.
    • “I plan to, sheriff. Thank you for your help.” Even though it felt like precious little and had his stomach twisted into knots. Now, he needed to figure out how he would go about keeping her safe.
  • Secondary: Flames of Renewal(if I get back from CP) – complete CP edits
    • In the Moonlight – start revisions

Blogging:

  • A-Z posts – draft 24 posts – 7/24 for the month. H is finished. Got into the antagonist’s head, which was rather shudder-inducing(if you’ve read Into the Sun or even Come Back Down you’d understand why). I is finished. 1119 words(H) + 379(I).
  • A-Z posts – edit & format 27 posts – Edited 8/27(almost forgot about the theme reveal post) posts. And my theme reveal went live on Monday. A, B, C, D, E, F, & G are scheduled. So, I’ve got through Week 2 ready. I’ll just have to add links back to the previous post before they go live(hopefully I’ll remember).

Reading:

  • Listen: 8 books – 4/8 for the month, 1 this week
    • King’s Cage(Victoria Aveyard) – Finished this Sunday after posting my check-in. Enjoyed it, but the ending broke my romantic heart. I did see there’s going to be at least 1 more book(I’d thought it was a trilogy, but I guess not).
  • Read: 31 books – 25/31 for the month, 8 this week.
    • Crimson Stain(Jim Fisher) – this is a true crime story about an Amish man who killed his wife not very far from where we live(It happened when I was about 8 years old). Finished this on Sunday.
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 38/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • The Beltane Kiss(Denise D Young) – Started this Saturday night. Finished it Sunday morning.
    • A Geek Girls Guide to Arsenic(Julie Anne Lindsey) – Started this Monday morning. Finished it Tuesday morning. Loved it. Not sure I’ve ever felt such kinship to a character as I do Mia(particularly the social awkwardness).
    • Under Pressure(Lori Foster) – Started this Tuesday afternoon. Finished it Friday evening. Really enjoyed it.
    • The Defiant Hero(Suzanne Brockmann) – Finished reading this Wednesday night. Enjoyed it for the most part.
    • The Brightest Day(Various) – There’s four novellas in this collection. I finished them all yesterday. Really enjoyed the first and last one.
    • Power Play(Katherine Stark) – Finished this Friday afternoon. Enjoyed it, though there were a few moments I had issue with.
    • Love After All(Jaci Burton) – started this Friday night. Finished it Saturday night. Liked it.
    • Hallowed Ground(Rebecca Yarros) – started this morning. At 5%.

Crafting:

  • Knit: Georgian Lace Cap – Finished this Tuesday morning. Have 4/4 rounds knitted for the brim. 40/40 rounds knitted for cap lace section. 11/11 for crown decreases.
  • Crochet: Cross-over Long DC Hat – Have 28/28 rounds crocheted for hat. 5/6 rounds crocheted for brim.
  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf & Last Minute Slouchy Hat – realized the slouchy hat uses a loom I don’t have, so I’m cutting it off the list.

RoW80 2017 Round 1 Wrap-Up

Today is the official end of the first round of RoW80 for this year. So, even though I did a check-in post yesterday, I have my wrap up of the round’s goals today. I’ll have my monthly wrap-up and goals for the next round and month up next Sunday(4/2). But, for now, here’s how I did for the round:

#Row80 Round 1:

Plotting:

  • Loving the Devil – Outline – set this one aside. The idea wasn’t really forming well into a plot.
  • Playing With Fire(Flames #6/The Rileys #1) – Outline – this is done. It’ll be my main writing project in April.
  • Heart of Christmas(BC Security novella) – I’m working on the story toolkit for this one.
  • High on Your Love(Kurztown #6) – Didn’t get to this one.

Writing:

  • In the Moonlight – 1st draft – Yes! Wrote 14964 words to finish it.
  • Crash and Burn – 1st draft – Yes! Wrote 16098 words to finish it.
  • Defending the Heart – 1st draft – Yes! Wrote 38768 words to finish it.
  • Stay a Little Longer – add 39000 words – 38500/39000 words. Only 500 short. Tomorrow’s words will get me there.
  • Not Meant to Be – add 12000 words – only managed 3683/12000. I changed how I was doing things, so this one got set aside. I think I’ll be getting back to it in May on the new schedule.
  • Loving the Devil – start drafting – no. This one’s shelved at least for now.
  • Playing with Fire – start drafting – I did start this. 6617 words. I’ll get back to it in April.
  • Heart of Christmas – start drafting – No. I don’t have this planned until August now.

Revising:

  • Stained Blood – Rewrite – Good progress on this. 7864 words added. I have 4 more scenes to add & 19 more to edit through.
  • Demons Rising – Revise – Still nothing on this
  • Flames of Renewal – Send to CP & do edits if I get it back before the end of the round – sent it to CP, but haven’t got it back yet.
  • Snow White Twist – Fill in Details – this is done & I did the read through. Ready to start revisions, which I’m hoping to have done by the end of the month.

Side Projects:

  • Midas’ Daughter – Get to 13000 words – 10441/13000 words
  • Dance with the Devil – finish 1st draft – done!
  • Patrick & Sarah – get to 5400 words – 5413/5400 words
  • Tavin & Haiwee – get to 4675 words – 4627/4675 words
  • Roman – get to 5800 words – 6350/5800 words
  • Dougal & Shae – get to 4000 words – 4163/4000 words

I also started a few other side projects, and have 2 more I plan to start this week. In all, I’ve added 17,262 words between all side projects.

Blogging:

  • Row80 – keep up to date with own posts & others – did pretty well with this.
  • Just Jot it January – 30 posts(since I already skipped day 1) – 28/30. Pretty close. I did all except for day 1 and a couple of the One-line Wednesday prompts.

Reading:

  • Listen: 12 books – 24/12. I’d met this goal back in January.
  • Read: 90 books – 77/90 books.

Crafting:

  • Knit: 3 projects – 3/3 projects
  • Crochet: 3 projects – 2/3 projects. Close to finishing the third, though.
  • Loom: 3 projects – 1/3 projects

Overall, it was a pretty good round. Looking forward to the next one.

Writing Wednesday: Still Smoking

I definitely think I like my new way of getting things done. I’m working on my writing goals for the first half of each hour. And during the second half, I’ll work through the other things on my list. And once I’m done with my writing goals, I’ll concentrate on the other t0-do items. Yesterday, doing this, the only thing I didn’t get done was my reading. So, I think I’m going to continue with it for now. At least until it isn’t working for me anymore.

Stepmother-in-law brought this back for us from her recent trip to Iceland.

The kids had Monday off from school(they also had last Friday off). So we decided to all get our eyes checked out. I’ve had to wear glasses since I was about twelve. Husband wears them on occasion, but doesn’t need them all the time. Last year we got the kids’ checked and the girl was a little far-sighted, but they said that often corrects as they grow. And this year hers was pretty much perfect. So was the boy’s. Mine haven’t changed enough to matter. And I just got new ones last year, so I wasn’t worried about it. Husband got news ones, though.

The reason we decided to do this now was because we still had a lot in his HSA through work. Which rolls over at the end of the month, and only so much of it will roll over. Well, he went to use it after our appointments, and it was declined. Looking into it, they’d deactivated all the cards because they’re moving to another company. Well, they weren’t supposed to deactivate them until next week. It would have been really nice to know beforehand. We ended up having to pay out of pocket, and the company is going to reimburse us. But, yeah, it kind of defeats the purpose of the health savings account when you can’t even use it.

Anyway, rant over, and it’s WiPPet Wednesday again! Woohoo!! I’m still working on Stay a Little Longer this morning. So, you get another snippet from that. Some context: They’re still at Jess’s daughter’s birthday party, and Terrall and Mike are talking. They share some similar history, but from different perspectives. Mike’s mother was killed in a drunk driving accident. His father was the one driving. Terrall was involved in a different one. Which is what they’re talking about here. There’s 7 paragraphs(3+2+2) here.

He shook his head. “I hardly drink anymore. An occasional beer, but I won’t get behind the wheel if I’ve had more than that.”
“Figured that. From what I heard from family and neighbors, Dad still drinks. Heavily. And doesn’t always wait for someone to come pick him up. That makes a big difference between him and you.”
A small figure came rushing into the kitchen before Terrall could respond to that. “Daddy, I want more fruit, but the tray’s gone.”
He laughed and lifted her to his side. “I was just refilling it, Alexa,” he said. “This is your mommy’s friend, Terrall,” he said, nodding toward him.
She turned to look at him, seemed to be studying him. Even though she had her father’s darker skin—a lighter shade, though—and his dark hair and eyes, he could see Jess in her, too. “Are you a friend like Fadil is Daddy’s friend?” she asked.
Mike snorted but left Terrall to answer the question himself. Great. “I’d like to be,” he said. “But, that’ll be up to your mama to decide.”
“Smart answer,” Mike said as he set his daughter down and picked up the tray.

Kids can certainly be perceptive. 🙂

Now on to my progress so far this week. This is also the end of Round 1 of RoW80. This post is already pretty long, though, so I’ll have my wrap-up for that tomorrow.

Plotting:

  • Primary: Heart of Christmas(BC Security 3.5) – write back stories, plot summary, and complete Story Toolkit – 4/22 sections of Story Toolkit(some of these sections I’ll have to do at least 2 sheets for because of multiple characters, but I’ll put them all in one section). 3317 words so far this month. 440 words this week.
  • Secondary: Still Burning(Hunter Family #4) – Brainstorm

Writing:

  • Primary: Stay a Little Longer – add 45000 words/finish 38 scenes – 32983 words/45000, 33/38 scenes for the month. 3327 words/4 scenes this week.
  • Secondary: Side Projects – 5000 words, edit Chapter 1 of Patrick & Sarah & Chapter 1 of Tavin & Haiwee, read through 9 chapters of Snow White Twist(there’s actually 10, but I read through chapter 1 in February) – 3863/5000 words so far this month. 514 words this week. have read through 9/9 in Snow White Twist. and I already have one reader lined up for this.

Editing:

  • Primary: Stained Blood – 10 new scenes & apply CP edits to 40 scenes – 6/10 new scenes finished this month. 15/40 scenes edited. 4835 words added this month. 1375 words added this week.
  • Secondary: Flames of Renewal(if I get back from CP) – complete CP edits
    • In the Moonlight – start revisions

Blogging:

  • A-Z posts – draft 24 posts – 5/24 for the month.

    • Fire(Kristin Cashore) – On Chapter 3(audible has these chapters split up weird. There are more than one in what it says is a chapter. So I’m just doing what’s on top of the screen on my phone). It’s interesting, but I’m almost 3 hours in and it doesn’t feel like a lot’s really happened. I’ll give it at least a little longer.
  • Read: 31 books – 20/31 for the month, 3 this week.
On page 167/381.
    • The Defiant Hero(Suzanne Brockmann) – This is today’s book. Just starting it.

Crafting:

  • Knit: Georgian Lace Cap – Finished this Tuesday morning. Have 4/4 rounds knitted for the brim. 40/40 rounds knitted for cap lace section. 11/11 for crown decreases.
  • Crochet: Cross-over Long DC Hat – Have 18/28 rounds crocheted for hat.
  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf & Last Minute Slouchy Hat – realized the slouchy hat uses a loom I don’t have, so I’m cutting it off the list.

Writing Wednesday: Rolling Through the Snow

Ok, not literally. That would be really cold. But, it’s been snowing here pretty steadily since the other night. Not as bad as some places, but we’ve definitely gotten a good amount. Not enough for them to even delay school, though.

And I’ve made a lot of progress on my writing goals for the week. As in, I’ve checked everything on my weekly goals list off. So, I’ll be working on my A-Z posts for the rest of the week during my writing time.

And before I get to more on that, it’s WiPPet Wednesday!! I thought I’d be sharing from one of my side projects, if that’s what I had open when I got to working on this post, but since everything is done, I’ll share some more from Stay a Little Longer. I have 15 paragraphs today(simple math this time). Mike is Jess’ daughter’s father, and their at his house for the daughter’s birthday.

Twenty minutes later she was pulling into his driveway. And saw Terrall’s car already parked there. Her stomach twisted a little. He was early. She was hoping to get there in time to introduce him. She looked up and saw the two dark-skinned men standing on the porch together, looking out at her.
She took a deep breath then stepped out of the car, going around to get Clay out of his seat. Paul was already standing at the front of the car, the gift he’d made and wrapped himself in his hands. “Why’s he here?” he asked, looking at Terrall.
“He’s my friend, Paul,” she said, wishing they could be even more than that. “I invited him.”
Her son didn’t say anything else, but he seemed wary as he approached the porch. Mike ruffled the boy’s hair, and Paul ducked away even as he laughed. Then, her ex took Clay from her arms and quickly flipped him upside down. Her son giggled, and Jess couldn’t help but smile. She loved hearing that sound. He might not talk much, but he was a happy child. That meant she had to be doing something right, didn’t it?
She glanced at Terrall then back to Mike. “I’ll get the rest of the things out of the car. Be right back.”
By the time she’d opened the trunk, Terrall was standing next to her. “Do you need help with anything?” he asked.
She looked up at him, feeling the smile spread even as razor-tipped wings fluttered in her stomach. She couldn’t remember any one else ever making her feel like this. “You can tell me why you’re here so early,” she said.
“You told me the party started at one, but you’d be here earlier to set up. I figured I’d lend a hand if I could.”
It was a sweet thing to do. She hadn’t asked him to do it. She handed him the cake box. “You can take this into the kitchen.” She grabbed the box of favor bags and started to lift it. But, he nudged her aside and set the cake on top of it, lifting both boxes at once.
Jess sighed. “I can lift a little box, Terrall.”
He leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to her lips. She moaned and leaned into him. His tongue grazed her lips then he jerked back, as if he’d forgotten himself for a moment. And his eyes were dark when she met them. He just smiled at her then started toward the house. She sighed again and grabbed the pinata she’d purchased the other day. At least he was letting her carry that.
“So, I met Mike,” he said as they walked up the sidewalk. “Seems like a nice guy.”
“He is,” Jess said. “Like I told you, we’re still friends even though we didn’t work out. Neither of us see Alex as a rope that needs to be tugged between us.” Unlike the way Frank seemed to think of Paul.
“Met his…partner, too.”
A corner of her mouth ticked up at his hesitation. “Boyfriend is the term they use,” she told him. “And it’s fine. I knew when Mike and I first got together that he was bi. It never bothered me. And Fadil has been good for him. I wish them all the happiness in the world.”

So, I almost want to write Mike and Fadil’s story now. Every time mike shows up in this one, I like him more and more. Not sure I’ll ever get to that one, though it may end up being a short story or novella.

Now, as promised, my progress for the week.

Plotting:

  • Primary: Heart of Christmas(BC Security 3.5) – write back stories, plot summary, and complete Story Toolkit – 1496 words on Alaina’s back story, 649 on Caelen’s back story. 2145 words so far this month

    • Crimson Stain(Jim Fisher) – this is a true crime story about an Amish man who killed his wife not very far from where we live(It happened when I was about 8 years old). Reading this when I finish the rest of the books on my weekly list. On page: 181/314(not counting all the end notes & index)
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 7/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • The Ranger(Monica McCarty) – Read this on Monday. Really enjoyed it.
    • Wanderlust(Roni Loren) – I started this one after setting several others aside(ones my MIL had given to me, and they just didn’t grab me). I’ve actually read it before when it was part of an anthology, but I’ll always re-read a Roni Loren book. I finished reading it last night. It was a pretty quick one, but just as good as I remember(though there was one detail I believe was changed).
    • First and First(Santino Hassell) – Just started this morning. At 2%.

  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf & Last Minute Slouchy Hat – I finished the scarf on Sunday.

Writing Wednesday: Charging Ahead

On Monday, I once again decided to change how I work on my projects. When it came time to work on my secondary project, I…just didn’t want to. And I’ve been feeling like that more and more. So, I decided to take the secondary projects off the table for now. I did look at what scenes I have left to write for Defending the Heart. And realized if I write 3 a day, I can have it finished by the end of the month. So, that’s what I’m shooting for right now. We’ll see if I can keep up with only 1 project. Well, except for my editing. If I get all those scenes done before the end of my writing time, I’ll switch over(after eating some breakfast, which I’m just finishing as I type this) to my editing/plotting. At the end of the writing time(9 a.m. which gives me about 4-5 hours), I’ll do chores and all that then get to my social media stuff. And my afternoon will pretty much remain the same as it has been. And now that breakfast is done, to editing! I’ll be back to finish this post later.

Chores are now done, so time to finish up this post! Yesterday we went and got our taxes done. We don’t always get them done this early, but we had everything together so we decided to get it over with. And we got more back than what I’d expected. We may have to wait a little longer to get the money than usual, but that’s not too bad. Then, we went and got Chinese for lunch(chicken and broccoli with fried rice. yum!) and were still home in time for me to wash dishes, fold laundry and write a few words before the kids got home.

It’s Wednesday which means time for WiPPet Wednesday!! I’m still working on Defending the Heart, so I’ll be sharing from it again. This may be the last one as long as I do get it finished by the end of the month. I’m not exactly sure what I’ll be working on next. Depending on which project I choose, I may share one more snippet from this next week even if I have finished drafting it. We’ll see how that all goes. For now here’s 6 paragraphs(2/22=2+2+2) from when Piers and Xavier go out to dinner together.

But, he kept his mouth shut as the hostess greeted them and led them back to a table. He noticed the young woman keep glancing back at Xavier. He couldn’t really blame her, he wouldn’t mind never taking his eyes off the man again, either. But, Xavier was probably a decade older than her, and other than a brief smile of greeting—which he gave to pretty much everyone he saw—he hadn’t given her a second glance.
Piers had an urge to tell her it was a lost cause, but why burst the girl’s bubble? A little harmless ogling and flirting rarely hurt anyone. And, to his surprise, it didn’t bother him that much. Even when Xavier winked at her, and she blushed a deep red. So, maybe Xavier had noticed it, too.
“You didn’t need to encourage her,” Piers said when she’d left them alone with their menus. “It’s not really fair, you know.”
One corner of Xavier’s mouth kicked up, but he didn’t look away from his menu. “Maybe we were just commiserating,” he said. “Being with a handsome bastard like you, no one would notice me.”
Piers snorted out a laugh at that. “Oh, trust me, they notice you. I could point out at least three women and two men who have their eyes on you right now.”
“Oh, I’ve seen them. But, pretty sure they’re actually watching you.”

So, which of them is right? Both? Neither? And just where is this night going to lead? Things are getting intense with where I am in drafting. Yesterday there was some family drama and that certainly made the words flow fast. A lot more fun to write it than to live it. 🙂

And now on to this week’s progress:

  • Write: Shoot for 10000 words between projects – 6375/10000 words. And all of those have gone toward Defending the Heart. I also started brainstorming a Christmas novella for this series.
  • Edit: Stained Blood – continue writing new scenes, shoot for total of 1000 words – 411/1000 words. didn’t work on this until this morning. didn’t finish even one scene yet, but made some good progress on it.
  • Side Projects – 1000 words/200 per project – 62/1000 words
  • Patreon – write new side story(this one will be Mason & Lila from First Choice, Second Chance) & if I get chapter 1 of Patrick & Sarah’s story back from beta & edited I’ll post it too – nothing on either of these yet. But, you can check my page out if you want.
  • Snow White Twist – read through – weekend project
  • Listen: From the Moment We Met(Marina Adair) & The Emerald Brooch(Katherine Lowry Logan) – Still listening to From the Moment We Met. Really enjoying it. Have a little less than 2 hours left to it.
  • Read: Walk the Edge(Katie McGarry), Leveling the Field(Megan Erickson), Ignite(Rebecca Yarros), Forbidden(Beverly Jenkins), Murder Comes Ashore(Julie Anne Lindsey), Destiny(Carly Phillips), and It’s Always Been You(Jessica Scott) – Finished Walk the Edge(loved), Leveling the Field(loved), and Ignite(enjoyed), and started Forbidden.
  • Crochet: Flower Coaster – haven’t started yet. Hopefully will this afternoon.
  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf – haven’t started
  • A to Z Challenge: Draft – Post B-Z – I finished the ‘B’ post. Haven’t started ‘C’ yet.
