Writing Wednesday: First Christmas Gathering

Sunday afternoon we had a Christmas party to go to for the kids at the local Moose lodge. That’s one nice thing our membership gives us. Plus, we go in almost every Friday night for dinner and the four of us eat for right around $25. Not many restaurants where you can get that. The boy got a race track set and the girl got a new bookbag. This is the last year she’ll get anything, since it’s only for 10 & under.

Tonight we have the Christmas party at the fire station for the kids/grandkids of the firefighters. Saturday is my niece’s birthday party and then Christmas with my dad. And then just over a week until three days of celebrating Christmas in a row. By then, I will certainly be all peopled out.

Got our tree up on Saturday

Today the school is on a 2 hour delay. I’m not surprised, we got snow dumped on us last night. I need to go out and shovel still. I’ll get to that, but first it’s time for another WiPPet Snippet. Last week, I said I’d share what got Isaac so spooked in that snippet, so here we go. I have 7 sentences(1+2+1+3) following directly after last week’s snippet.

The man behind him still had a cruel smile on his face. Apparently prison hadn’t gotten rid of that. Instead it almost seemed to have been carved even deeper. Isaac tried to focus on the road, on getting home. It would only satisfy his father if he ended up killing himself on the drive. He’d probably call it some kind of justice. Since it had been because of Isaac, at least partly, that he’d spent the last seven years in prison.

Yeah, Isaac’s father is not a nice guy, just in case you were wondering.

Sunday Summary: Getting on Track

Or nearly getting on track at least. I haven’t quite met any of my writing goals for the week. Though I’m close on most of them. Those first three days of being out and about threw me way off. I seriously do not know how you with jobs you have to leave the house for get it done. All I did was sit behind a table and ring up book transactions, and I was so drained I could barely stay awake until 8 those nights. And certainly didn’t feel up to putting brain power to words. I did get some writing done in the morning and a few chores, but it took a good bit of catching up on Thursday and Friday.

Next week will be calmer and hopefully I’ll be able to get all the words and maybe even some bonus ones done then.

We’ve got snow outside this morning, and it’s more than a dusting this time. And we’re supposed to be getting even more from Monday through Wednesday. Oh goody. I did get our Christmas tree up yesterday and decorated. Maybe with the snow, it will actually feel like Christmas is coming.

Writing Wednesday: Chaotic Time

Last week I got a text from a friend(well, her ex-husband and my husband are good friends. I still consider her a friend though we don’t talk that much) asking if I could help with the Santa shop/book fair at the school this week. My first response was “I don’t wanna!” Because, if you haven’t figured it out yet, me and people don’t get along well. As well as noise and craziness. But, I said if I could find a ride there and home, I should be able to do it. Because, of course, I can’t just say no and risk disappointing someone. She said she could bring me home as long as I could stay there until 3(she drives a school bus and is done with her route by then). Of course the kids get home just before 3, so I’m trying to figure out how that will work. But, my husband’s uncle was able to bring me in. Monday wasn’t too busy, though it did get a little chaotic. I worked the book fair side, which was more manageable at least. And we got done early, so I got a ride from one of the other volunteers and got home just before the kids. Tuesday was…a lot more. More classes through, more noise, more craziness. Monday when I got home, I just felt exhausted. Like I’d been moving stuff around all day instead of sitting behind a table running the cash register. I’m typing this up Tuesday afternoon and the exhaustion hasn’t hit me yet. And even after 2 days of running the machine, I had moments of completely blanking on what I needed to do. Monday the first class that came in, their teacher gave them each a $5 coupon to spend, so they could all get a book. Which I thought was really nice. He gave us the money, so we were trying to take from it and it got a little complicated(since he gave us 5 twenties and a five, instead of 21 fives), but the money that was left over, he donated to the book fair, so we’ve been pulling from that if someone has needed a little extra(apparently this is the first year they’ve had to charge sales tax at the fair and apparently no one else was informed of this).

There’s only one more day of it, so I’m pretty sure I’ll survive. It hasn’t been quite as bad as I feared, but I will definitely be glad when it’s over. Needless to say, I am not ahead on my goals. I’m managing to stay somewhat on track(I think). My husband responded to a fire call(local livestock auction barn) Monday night, just as I was getting ready to go to bed. I woke up at 2, so I was able to get some writing done, and he didn’t get home until 4. I got just over 2000 words written before the kids were up at 6. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up later in the week.

For now it’s time for WiPPet Wednesday!! I have more Jonas & Isaac for you. I have 9 sentences(1+2+6) for you today. Isaac has just finished his last final and is heading out to his car when he notices something.

He couldn’t move, couldn’t press the button, couldn’t do anything. The figure moved closer, and Isaac’s hand shook so hard, his keys fell tot he ground. The sunlight was already dimming in the late afternoon, but the lights around the parking lot illuminated the man’s face.

“No,” Isaac said. “You can’t be here.”

He hadn’t thought he’d spoken loud enough for the man to hear him, but he laughed, so maybe he had. Isaac’s heart was pounding in his ears, but he dropped down and swiped for his keys, finally unlocking the door, and practically leaping inside. He locked the doors as soon as he was in the seat but just sat there as he tried to get his breathing under control. His heart was still racing, but he turned the key in the ignition and backed out of his parking space.

Who did he see? Why is he so frightened? What’s going to happen next? I’ll have more of this and some of those answers next week.

Sunday Summary: Starting a New Month

I finished NaNoWriMo on Wednesday. Thursday I focused on editing Chapter 5 of Stained Blood. Friday I started on my new goals for December. I’d thought of just taking off until next week. Then, I got contacted about helping out with the book fair/santa shop at the school this coming week. So, I’m going to be out from about 8-3 Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. You know, the majority of my writing time. So, I won’t be getting much writing done before Thursday. I’d planned to write this weekend and try to get ahead on my goals, but Saturday I just felt *tired*. Not in the ‘I need more sleep’ way. More in the ‘I need to just not do anything’ way. So, I didn’t. Well, not completely true. I did a good bit of reading on Saturday, just not much writing. It helped that my husband took the boy out hunting(his first time going). And the girl went with mother-in-law for the day. So, I had the house to myself all day. Yes, it was nice.

Any deer out there?

So, how did November turn out? Let’s see:

All day she’d had to field questions from the men. About why they’d been pulled off a job then suddenly called back. Why they were letting some coward cause chaos on their own job. Why she was still in charge if she couldn’t even handle something like this.
Okay, so mostly that last had been asked by her in her own head. She didn’t want the other men to know just how much her confidence had suffered because of this. Maybe [xx] had been right and she only had this job because her father was the boss.
No. She wasn’t going to think like that. Yes, her father might have given her a chance another boss might not have. It’s not like she was the only woman on a construction crew, though. And he never would have kept her on if she wasn’t good at her job. So she shouldn’t have these doubts.

Writing Wednesday: Finished!

Yes, that’s right, I finished NaNoWriMo early this morning. I almost had it finished last night, was less than 500 words away when I could barely keep my eyes open. So I decided to set it aside. I didn’t have any problem getting those last words this morning. I’m only a little more than halfway through the story, though. I might finish it in December, if it’s the main project I decide to put in first priority. We shall see.

Now, it’s time to WiPPet Wednesday again! And I’m still sharing from Jonas & Isaac. Last week, we had Konner giving Jonas a ride home after getting his prosthetic leg. Today I have the next 13 sentences(1+1+2+9).

Konner shook his head as he navigated the snowy streets. “Just that I had to run some errands. He was too busy studying for his last final to even ask what errands they were.”

Isaac had been distracted this week finishing a project and studying for tests. “So, he’ll be done after tomorrow?”

Konner sent him a crooked grin as he turned into the driveway. “No need to go fishing, Jonas. But, yes, he’ll be all yours for the next month.”

Jonas’ face burned now. “That’s not what I was asking.”

“Sure, it’s not. You coming to the center again tomorrow? Isaac should be there sooner, depending on how long that test takes him.”

Konner is so not believing your denial, Jonas. 🙂

Sunday Summary: Rolling Along

Not too much to really say up here. Words have been flowing. Things are about to get hot in my NaNo project. And not in a sexy way. Why would I be nice to my characters, after all?

I’m not sure how the words will go this week with Thanksgiving. But, I’ll still be working on it. At the rate I’m going, I might hit the midpoint by the time I reach 50,000 words. Which should make this my longest novel. but, we’ll see how thing goes.

Now, for my progress so far:

  • Stretch: Flames of Knowledge – Brainstorm Target Not Sighted In

Writing:

  • Primary: Green Hills & Smoky Fields – Write 50000 words – 31273/50000 words On Target
    • “I’m going to saddle Ceallach,” Torin said, heading for the back of the cottage. Desmund saw his aunt heading after him. He knew she wouldn’t be trying to talk him out of leaving this time. Torin and Eamonn did have to leave now. Otherwise they likely would all hang. He hated he would have to say good-bye to Eamonn after all, though.
  • Secondary: Other main projects – Write 17500 words – 11288/17500 On Target
    • Still Burning – 1182 words
      • Austin wouldn’t let himself look. He would not ruin the good time she was having. “Aren’t big brothers supposed to threaten the guys who want to get with their little sisters?” he asked.
Nolan just laughed at that. “You do realize Jess would kick our asses if any of us tried that. Tate may anyways, but just mention Emilia, and he turns into a big teddy bear.”
    • Whatever It Takes –1209 words
    • High on Loving You –1334 words
      • She just wished she could say the same for herself. But, that was a choice in his hands, and it almost seemed like he had made it. And it wasn’t in her favor. She wasn’t just going to give up, though. Not on Morgan and not on what they could have between them. No matter what he had to say about the matter. She had faith in them, and she would find a way to prove he should as well.
    • By the Gun – 590 words
      • Carlos wished he could be as sure as the other man. But, he just knew he needed to make sure he didn’t let his brother die. If that happened, he’d only have Pedro left. He would have failed everyone else. And he wasn’t sure how he could claim he hadn’t failed him as well. If he’d gotten back to the ranch sooner that day, if he’d kept Patrick and those other men from riding off, maybe then he could have stopped it all. But, he hadn’t, and now almost all his family was gone.

They’re included in the Audible Romance package so I can download them for free(well, for the monthly subscription fee, but I can get as many as I can listen to a month). Writing Wednesday: In the Middle

We’ve come to the middle of the month. I’m halfway to my NaNoWriMo(or was very close to it as of Tuesday night. Won’t have a problem hitting it today Hit it this morning). I’m at the halfway point of Whatever It Takes(and nearly ready to outline Act 3). And that’s about all the middle stuff I can come up with. 🙂

On Sunday we went to a birthday party for one of the boy’s friends. His older brother is also in the girl’s grade, and their father is friends with my husband, so both kids were invited. The birthday party was at Chuck E Cheese, which is basically my personal version of Hell. Up until now I’ve gotten away from having to go to any parties there. Usually only 1 kid is invited, so I take the other one to do something else(if the girl stays with me, we usually go to the bookstore, the boy prefers Toys R Us). It was…not as bad as I feared. We followed the kids around a bit at first, and there were too many people among all the games. But when we sat down, it wasn’t quite as…socially claustrophobic(this is the term I used before I knew social anxiety was a thing). I felt on edge the whole time we were there, but I survived, so there’s that. And the kids had a good time.

During last week’s writing of Green Hills & Smoky Fields(really need to come up with a different title since book 1 takes place all in the Green Hills part), a new character popped up, surprising me(If you want, you can meet him in the Stream of Consciousness Saturday post I have linked below). And he has me adding quite a few words and scenes I hadn’t planned on into it. And it also already has me thinking about what might happen in book 2. Except I’m not even halfway through this one yet. Oops?

And now that it’s Wednesday, it’s time for WiPPet Wednesday!! A blog hop, hosted by the amazing Emily Wrayburn for us to share a snippet from a current Work in Progress that someone pertains to the date. I’m still sharing from Jonas & Isaac’s story. I have the last 6 paragraphs(1+5 for the day) from the scene I started sharing from last week.

“You did say you wanted to know why he keeps coming by, hanging out when you’re not busy. But, he leaves just as that tension starts snapping between you.”

That wasn’t quite what he’d said. And Jonas did seem to get enjoyment out of helping the kids. But, there had to be more to it, didn’t there? “I don’t need a private investigator for those answers. I don’t need those answers.” Wasn’t sure he wanted them.

“You keep telling yourself that, Isaac. I can see the truth. Hell, everyone around here sees the truth.”

“I will,” Isaac said, ignoring the last two statements. “Thank you very much for your permission.”

Konner snorted again and bumped his shoulder against Isaac’s. Then, he started rambling on about…something. Isaac barely followed the conversation. Because why did Jonas keep coming by? Was it really only about helping? Or something more?

He shouldn’t care about the answer. But, he did. and he was afraid finding out would destroy him.

Will Isaac get those answers? Would he really like what they were?
