Sunday Summary: Easter

Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates in any way. We went and got groceries Friday afternoon and the husband kept the kids with him so I could sneak away and get the stuff for their baskets since once again we put it off to the last minute. I’m actually writing this post on Saturday because we’re planning on going to the sunrise service in the morning(if we’re all up in time), then going to his stepmom’s for a bit, hitting my mom’s around lunch time, and then heading to his aunt’s. So, if I don’t get it posted first thing, it will be pretty late. And I’m already finished with Saturday’s goals by 3:30 p.m. So, I figured I’d go ahead and start on Sundays.

And for anyone wondering about our dryer issues, the part came in on Thursday. When my husband got home from work, he installed it, had to adjust it a little(it still wouldn’t start when the door was closed unless you pushed against the door) but then it worked. So, we now have a working dryer again. Don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to be able to do laundry. 😉

As for the computer chair issue, still nothing there. So my computer remains plugged into the tv. Which means writing while the kids are up is a bit problematic, as they sit there and watch me type. So, I guess the steamier scenes will have to wait until they’re back to school on Wednesday.

And the week of breaking things continued into this week. I came back up onto the porch from hanging clothes out on Wednesday and saw the pup sitting on the porch, the cable from his run just hanging down from his collar. It was broken in three pieces. Whether it was just wear and tear or because he likes to grab it in his mouth(maybe a combination of the two), I don’t know. But, thankfully we had an extra cable so I was able to hook that one up.

So, it’s been an interesting week+ around here. And I’ve continued getting stuff done.

Plotting

  • Heart of Christmas – finish Story Toolkit, Outline in scrivener21/21 sections of the Story Toolkit done. 610 words this month,  14/14 chapters outlined in Scrivener(about halfway through I started just writing summary of what will happen in scenes. Will outline more as I get there, I think).
  • Still BurningBrainstorm, Character back stories, plot summary, through Story Toolkit: Romance Arc – 5/5 mind maps done, GMCs done, finished Jess’ back story(590 words) & Austin’s(924 words), and Glenn’s(406 words). And I wrote Saturday’s Stream of Consciousness post with these characters.

Writing

  • Playing with Fire – Add 73000 words/66 scenes(some of these include bits from my Just Jot It posts in January, they may be fleshed out to scenes of their own or merged into other scenes, but I’m counting them all for right now). – 22030 words/33 finished scenes for the month, 10765 words/17 scenes for the week
    • Jeremiah let out a rough laugh then pressed his lips to Silas’. “It means you’re human, and don’t have everything figured out,” he said, leaning back again. “Just like the rest of us.”
  • Side Projects – add 4000 words between all projects. – 2291/4000 words for the month, 1057 words this week
    • Patrick & Sarah – 110 words – “Why haven’t you left?” she asked, nearly wincing at the bite in her voice. Why couldn’t she say anything to this man without sounding so defensive?
    • Roman – 170 words – So, he sat. But, he noticed Tereza holding herself stiff on the other side of the table, her gaze darting between him and Cristine. He kept his own gaze on the girl, until she saw he didn’t offer any threat. Not to her, and certainly not to Cristine.
    • Hang On – 146 words – Yeah, definitely something wrong. I could tell just from the way he spoke. “Maybe because I’ve known you since we were two and always know when something’s going on with you.”
    • Mason & Lila – 133 words – So, right now, she hurried from the classroom and to her locker to replace her textbooks and grab her lunch bag. She didn’t want to waste any time she could have with Mason.
    • Dougal & Shae – 129 words – She turned away, not wanting him to see how much his words affected her. “If they think that way, how do you think a husband would feel about me being out on patrol? I don’t think I could stand to just stay home, though.”
    • Jacob & Matthew – 110 words – Matthew supposed that was the best he could hope for. When they couldn’t live their lives out in the open, he’d make the most of what he could.
    • Midas’ Daughter – 103 words – He just wished Calla’s affection was as easy to earn.
    • Mike & Fadil – 156 words – His father had made it clear nearly a decade ago just where Mike fit into his life.Absolutely nowhere.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 105 words – He wanted to ride out several times a day to try to find her.
    • Preggers – 113 words – “Really?” Marika asked. “I would have thought I’d remember you. I don’t usually forget faces.”

Editing

Reading

  • Listen: 5 books – 3/5, 1 this week
    • Blameless(Gail Carriger) – started this Thursday morning. Finished it Tuesday afternoon. Really enjoyed it. And the ending was a lot more satisfying than book 2.
    • Girl on a Wire(Gwenda Bond) – Started this Thursday. Wasn’t too sure about it at first, but I’m on Chapter 10 now and enjoying it.
  • Read: 30 books – 16/30, 8 this week
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 51/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • Consumed by You(Lauren Blakely) – Started this Saturday afternoon. Hot firefighters, that’s really all I have to say, right? Finished it Sunday night. Enjoyed it.
    • Before I Fall(Jessica Scott) – Started this Monday morning. Finished it Monday night. Really enjoyed it.
    • Willing Victim(Cara McKenna) – Started the Monday night. Finished it Tuesday afternoon. Liked it, but not enough to get the sequel. Honestly, I don’t think the characters’ story needed to be continued. It was a pretty good ending, I thought, or rather beginning to their relationship.
    • Full Coverage(Erin Nicholas) – Started this Tuesday evening. Finished it Wednesday afternoon. Really enjoyed and it left me with some happy tears(I’m a sap, it’s okay).
    • Kids in Love(Nikki Godwin) – Read this one Wednesday afternoon. It was a shorter one. Not sure if it’s because it’s been a while since  I read the first one or what, but was kind of meh about it.
    • Arkadian Skies(Lindsay Buroker) – Started this Wednesday night. Finished it Friday night. Loved it.
    • Winning Miss Wakefield(Vivienne Lorret) – Read this Saturday. Really enjoyed it.
    • Riskier Business(Tessa Bailey) – Started this Saturday afternoon. Finished it Saturday evening. Enjoyed it.

Writing Wednesday: Good Start

I’ve had a good start to the week, despite some issues lingering from last week. Like the broken dryer. We have a new part ordered and it will hopefully be here by Friday. Until then, I’m line-drying clothes. Mostly inside, since it’s been rainy out. Hopefully the weather improves so I can move that outside. No fix for the computer chair yet, though. And it’s very uncomfortable to sit in a chair that keeps tilting to the side. So, I plugged my computer into the tv to use it as a big monitor. Of course, it’s far enough away and my vision is messed up enough even with glasses, that I had to bring up the zoom on scrivener to almost 200% so I can read it from the couch.

But, I’ve gotten a good bit of writing done so far this week. I’m hoping that continues, but starting today, the kids have the next week off from school. So that may affect how much I get done. They are pretty good at playing independently, so I can usually get some time, but we’ll see how it goes. I may be playing catch up when they go back to school next week. And I have my nice quiet house back.

Now, for the real reason for Wednesday! WiPPet Time!! Yeah, I get a little excited. I’m still sharing from Playing with Fire. It’s coming along pretty well. Lots of emotions bouncing between these three characters. Today I have 7 paragraphs(4+1+2) with Jeremiah and Silas. part of this was from a stream of consciousness post I did at the end of December.

Silas leaned back against the couch and looked over at his friend. Jeremiah had just come back from the laundromat with his basket of clothes. Silas needed to think about doing that pretty soon, too. He watched as Jer folded a pair of jeans and set them on the stack of his other pants.
“So, when are you going to ask her out?”
“Who?” Jeremiah asked without looking toward him.
Silas rolled his eyes and laid his head back against the couch. “Corrin. Come on, Jer, it’s pretty obvious. To everyone except the two of you apparently.”
“There are a couple things you should know,” Jeremiah said, matching up two perfectly white socks. “First, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
The corners of Silas’ mouth curled up. He’d known Jeremiah for nearly a decade now. The man was one of the most honest, honorable people he knew. But, he’d always had a strong vein of denying his own feelings. “Seriously, man, I hope you don’t think I’m blind.” Okay, he nearly was without his glasses, but that wasn’t his point. “Even if I was, I’d probably be able to see it. The sparks you two throw off light up the whole damn room.”
Color filled his friend’s face, and Silas tried to ignore the ache in his chest. He wanted someone to look at him the way Corrin looked at Jeremiah. Hell, he wanted Jeremiah to look at him that way. There’d been times when he’d thought he had. When they were both between relationships. He just wished he could ignore his feelings and put them away like Jeremiah seemed to.

Sunday Summary: Quite a Week

It has been quite a week. In a good way, of course. After being unemployed since the end of November(it’s a seasonal position, so this is a yearly occurrence), my husband went back to work on Monday. I may be one of the few people who actually look forward to the beginning of road construction season. For the last few years, he’s been doing the dispatching for the company. Well, this year they decided he would have to reapply to keep his position. He did and had his interview last week. They wanted to put him on salary(he’s been working for hourly wage until now) and were only offering him about 25k less than what he made last year, along with keeping the vehicle reimbursement and fuel card he’s had the last couple years. We talked about it and both agreed on him turning it down. That was a huge cut, and they wanted him to take on more responsibility for less money. He can make more driving the truck hauling equipment around. He’s still doing the dispatching at the moment until they get someone else hired, but after that he’ll go back to just being in the truck.

I also got quite a bit of writing done. I like where Playing with Fire is going, I finished outlining Heart of Christmas. And, yeah, it’s been a pretty good week for words.

Yesterday we went to a pancake breakfast at our fire hall. Then went and got groceries. And got new swim suits for the kids. They do swimming in gym class usually a couple times a year. This will actually be the first time for this year(and not until May) because the pool was closed for most of the year due to budget issues. Then, we went back to town for dinner at Pizza Hut. The girl got a free pizza with her little book it slip. And while we were there, the boy said something goofy and I responded, “I don’t know about you.” He instantly came back with, “Everyone knows about me. I’m silly.” Yes. Yes, you are.

Yesterday also seems to be the day for breaking things. I was drying sheets and put a couple back in since they were still damp. Dryer wouldn’t start. It’s older and has fits sometimes. Opened the door, closed it again, Tried again. Next time I closed the door a little plastic switch broke right off. So, we need to find a new one before I can do more laundry. Then, my desk chair has started sitting weird, so I keep tipping to the side when I sit down. It’s annoying but bearable. At least for now. That chair’s a bit on the older side, too.

Now, for my progress for the week:

Plotting

  • Heart of Christmas finish Story Toolkit, Outline in scrivener21/21 sections of the Story Toolkit done. 610 words this month, 6/6 Toolkit sections this week, 610 words this week. 14/14 chapters outlined in Scrivener(about halfway through I started just writing summary of what will happen in scenes. Will outline more as I get there, I think).
  • Still Burning – Brainstorm, Character back stories, plot summary, through Story Toolkit: Romance Arcwill start this on Monday

Writing

  • Playing with Fire – Add 73000 words/66 scenes(some of these include bits from my Just Jot It posts in January, they may be fleshed out to scenes of their own or merged into other scenes, but I’m counting them all for right now). – 11265 words/16 finished scenes for the month, 10928 words/16 scenes this week
    • Silas dropped his arms to his sides. “What are you talking about, Shel? Jer’s never been my boyfriend. We’re just friends.”
She rolled her eyes. You could hardly tell she’d be eighteen in another six months. “You don’t actually expect us to believe that, do you? You’ve been in love with him since you were fifteen.”  *Ah, what are little sisters good for if not giving older siblings a hard time(not that I was that kind of sister, of course 😉 )
  • Side Projects – add 4000 words between all projects. – 1234/4000 words for the month, 1234 for the week.
    • Mike & Fadil – 100 words – Not that his father would appreciate any of it. But, just because the old man refused to talk to Mike didn’t mean he was just going to let him starve himself.
    • Hang On – 105 words – Ian flopped back in his seat and crossed his arms, staring out the side window. I didn’t think he was really angry, Ian never was for very long at all. But, I still wished I knew what was going on with him.
    • Patrick & Sarah – 127 words – No, that was foolish. She could stand on her own. She’d been doing it for long enough.
    • Midas’ Daughter – 113 words – Flip let out a snort at that. Prince Charming. Isn’t that what he’d called the guy the first day he’d shown up? Maybe there was something to it. Flip certainly could never come up to meet that standard. If that’s what she wanted, he was a lost cause.
    • Roman – 139 words – He sighed, but the corners of his mouth tipped up. He should know better by now. There really was no saying no to Cristine. Not when she got something set in her mind.
    • Jacob & Matthew – 129 words – If he didn’t think of something and soon, he’d have to return home. One thing he’d promised himself he would never do. If his father, the upstanding sheriff, would even accept him back.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 183 words – Damnation. She certainly did something to him.
    • Preggers – 108 words – The woman smiled at her. That made her even prettier. Stop thinking that, she told herself. She’d loved Darren with her whole heart. She shouldn’t be noticing anyone, even another woman.
    • Mason & Lila – 100 words – Then, two long days before she could see him again. Unless his family happened to be in church Sunday morning.
    • Dougal & Shae – 130 words – No. No, that wasn’t it. She wasn’t afraid of a simple bartender. Her emotions were getting mixed up where he was concerned.

Editing

  • Stained Blood – Adjust chapters(some are really long after adding new scenes in), double-check for missing details, 50 search & destroy items, send to readers – Adjusted chapters(went from 20 to 26 counting the epilogue) and filled in a few missing details(added 7 words). 11/50 search & destroy items(cut 526 words).
  • Snow White Twist – rename, polish 48 search & destroy items, send to readers – Polished 35/48 items

Writing Wednesday: Stitching Together

April is off to a pretty good start. I’ve been sticking with my write during 1st half hour everything else during second half hour routine. Yesterday I even had everything except for my reading done by lunch time. So, it’s definitely going well.

I finished the first draft of Stay a Little Longer on Friday. I started working on Playing with Fire Saturday morning(with a Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt that I ended up working into the second scene of the story). There’s quite a few of little pieces I’m working on stitching together from the Just Jot It January pieces I wrote with these characters. But, I’ve gotten some completely new scenes as well. I’m typing all new words in blue so it’ll be easier to keep track of how many words I’ve added for Camp NaNo.

Since it is Wednesday, that means it’s WiPPet Time!! And for this month I’ll be sharing from Playing with Fire. Today I have 26 sentences(4+5+17). Jeremiah has just walked in to the apartment to find Silas and Corrin arguing/debating, which is apparently a common occurrence.

Jeremiah laughed and shook his head then put the bag of food on the counter. “You two are impossible.”
Corrin saw Silas eying Jeremiah as he moved around the kitchen, and something shifted inside her. She couldn’t blame him. She’d found herself eying Jeremiah the same way. No matter how many times she tried to stop herself.
Silas sighed and slipped the shirt over his head. “I need to get to the library if I’m going to find a table to study at.”
“Why don’t you eat something first,” Jeremiah said, tossing a wrapped sandwich to him from the bag. “Don’t even tell me you don’t already have all the information memorized. I know you better than that.”
The tips of Silas’ ears turned red, but she didn’t notice the flush anywhere else. “I’ll just eat it on the go,” he said.
She noticed Jeremiah watch him until he left the kitchen. Then, he busied himself with taking the rest of the food out of the bag. She told herself she was seeing things that weren’t there. She knew Jeremiah was bisexual, but him and Silas were just best friends. He’d assured her of that. She wouldn’t have stayed here so long if she thought she was coming between them.
“Eat,” he told her, setting another sandwich in front of her. “I know you have to work tonight. And also knowing you, you won’t leave that computer until you have to get ready. So, just eat the sandwich.”
He was in his caretaker mode, which meant his shift had probably been rough. So, she didn’t even bother to argue with him. Just unwrapped the sandwich and took a large bite of egg, ham, and cheese between a flaky croissant.

And as for how things are going so far this week:

It’s interesting, but I’m almost 3 hours in and it doesn’t feel like a lot’s really happened. I’ll give it at least a little longer. I’m almost 6 hours in now and still doesn’t feel like a lot is happening. Taking a break from it to listen to something else.
    • The Broken Brooch(Katherine Lowry Logan) – Started this Monday. I’m on Chapter 32. About half an hour left to listen to. Will finish it today then I’ll switch back to Fire for the rest of the week(or I finish it).
  • Read: 30 books – 4/30, 2 this week
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 51/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • Do You Want to Start a Scandal(Tessa Dare) – I’d started a different one Monday morning but didn’t care for it, so moved this one up the list. Finished it Monday night.
    • Bad News Cowboy(Maisey Yates) – Started this Monday night. Finished it Tuesday night. Enjoyed it.
    • Vengeance Road(Erin Bowman) – Just started this morning. At 3%. Not too sure about this one yet.

Crafting

  • Knit: Duo Cable Hat – started this Monday. Finished the ribbing for the brim and the increase row.
  • Crochet: Crystal Drops Beanie
  • Loom: Newborn Loom Knit Baby Hat

Sunday Summary:

Let’s see, what to talk about up here. Not a lot has happened since Wednesday, when I had a mini-rant about health savings accounts and my husband’s work’s lack of communication. Friday the weather was really nice when the kids got home from school, so they played outside until husband got home with dinner. And went back outside with him after dinner for a couple more hours. And the boy decided to paint his window with mud. Himself, too, by all appearances when he came back inside.

It was pretty nice Saturday morning too, though not quite as warm, so they went out there again for a while. I got pretty much everything on Saturday’s list done early, so I ended up starting on Sunday’s. Needless to say, it’s been a pretty good week for me.

So, even though RoW80 is technically on a break until the beginning of April, I’m still here to share my progress. Next Sunday, I’ll have my wrap-up of the month, as well as next round’s and month’s goals.

Plotting:

  • Primary: Heart of Christmas(BC Security 3.5) write back stories, plot summary, and complete Story Toolkit – 9/21 sections(I cut out subplot section for this one) of Story Toolkit(some of these sections I’ll have to do at least 2 sheets for because of multiple characters, but I’ll put them all in one section). 5025 words so far this month. 2148 words this week. And I wrote a little piece that likely will be included for this for Stream of Consciousness Saturday
  • Secondary: Still Burning(Hunter Family #4) – Brainstorm

Writing:

  • Primary: Stay a Little Longer – add 45000 words/finish 38 scenes – 35437 words/45000, 36/38 scenes for the month(there’s definitely going to be more than this, probably 43 at least). 5781 words/7 scenes this week.
    • Terrall certainly hoped he was right. And that they weren’t putting Paul into more danger. If his choices brought harm to someone again, he wasn’t sure how he’d ever forgive himself
  • Secondary: Side Projects – 5000 words, edit Chapter 1 of Patrick & Sarah & Chapter 1 of Tavin & Haiwee, read through 9 chapters of Snow White Twist(there’s actually 10, but I read through chapter 1 in February) – 4723/5000 words so far this month. 1280 words this week. have read through 9/9 in Snow White Twist. and I already have one reader lined up for this. If any else would be interested in reading a f/f retelling of Snow White(about 21000 words), let me know. I should have it revised and ready by the end of the month. I’ll be adding 2 more stories to my list, one of which just popped into my head one day and then I saw this article this morning, which is kind of similar to the idea(only my characters will meet when they’re already pregnant).
    • Midas’ Daughter – 101 words – Flip had hoped Mr. Midas might one day forget his threats. But, the glares he periodically sent him and the little hints he’d drop, told him that was still not the case. It probably never would be.
    • Patrick & Sarah – 174 words – Just a terror, Sarah had said. Nothing more than a bad nightmare. He glanced back toward the bedroom the two boys shared. He couldn’t say why, but he was sure there was a lot more to it than that.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 85 words – Haiwee shot more words at her cousin, and this time Tavin did catch his own name in there. Then, something else as she gestured back to him.  *I probably would have written more, but I got sidetracked researching. I did find a search engine for the Shoshoni language, though.
    • Roman – 154 words – “Don’t be silly,” she said, and her voice was still soft, still gentle. “We are a family. No matter how we add to it, you and I will always be a family, Roman.
    • Dougal & Shae – 127 words – “I’ll get him,” Shae told her. When she stepped into the living room, she saw her nephew in his swing, banging his fists on the tray. She smiled and headed right for him. “Giving your mama a hard time, are you?” she asked as she lifted him. He instantly grabbed a lock of her hair and pulled.
    • Mason & Lila – 120 words – Lila sighed and glanced down at the text they were supposed to be learning about. Really how was anyone supposed to even care about any of this? It was so boring. There so many better ways she could be spending her time.
    • Jacob & Matthew – 217 words – He was rewarded with Jacob’s smile. That filled him with more warmth than even having his name on the front of a newspaper had ever been able to do.
    • Hang On – 187 words – “You never know with those nymphs,” he said. “One little mistake, and poof, you’re on the nymph’s most wanted list.” *these 2 are cracking me up. I don’t know if this story will go anywhere, but it’s certainly fun so far.
    • Mike & Fadil – 95 words – Sharing that little girl with Jess had certainly taken away a good bit of the control he had over his life. But, he wouldn’t change anything for that. *don’t have much of this to share just yet.
    • Preggers(don’t know this title will stick, but I needed something to call it for now) – 121 words – Here she was just another widow of war. The youngest, and the only one who still carried something of their spouse with her, but it was the one thing that tied them together that mattered.
    • Snow White Twist – I compiled notes on 10/10 chapters. I have made 74/98 changes. I’ve added 36 words.

Editing:

  • Primary: Stained Blood – 10 new scenes & apply CP edits to 40 scenes – 6/10 new scenes finished this month. 24/40 scenes edited. 4884 words added this month. 1424 words added this week.
    • “I plan to, sheriff. Thank you for your help.” Even though it felt like precious little and had his stomach twisted into knots. Now, he needed to figure out how he would go about keeping her safe.
  • Secondary: Flames of Renewal(if I get back from CP) – complete CP edits
    • In the Moonlight – start revisions

Blogging:

  • A-Z posts – draft 24 posts – 7/24 for the month. H is finished. Got into the antagonist’s head, which was rather shudder-inducing(if you’ve read Into the Sun or even Come Back Down you’d understand why). I is finished. 1119 words(H) + 379(I).
  • A-Z posts – edit & format 27 posts – Edited 8/27(almost forgot about the theme reveal post) posts. And my theme reveal went live on Monday. A, B, C, D, E, F, & G are scheduled. So, I’ve got through Week 2 ready. I’ll just have to add links back to the previous post before they go live(hopefully I’ll remember).

Reading:

  • Listen: 8 books – 4/8 for the month, 1 this week
    • King’s Cage(Victoria Aveyard) – Finished this Sunday after posting my check-in. Enjoyed it, but the ending broke my romantic heart. I did see there’s going to be at least 1 more book(I’d thought it was a trilogy, but I guess not).
    • Fire(Kristin Cashore) – On Chapter 5(audible has these chapters split up weird. There are more than one in what it says is a chapter. So I’m just doing what’s on top of the screen on my phone). It’s interesting, but I’m almost 3 hours in and it doesn’t feel like a lot’s really happened. I’ll give it at least a little longer.
  • Read: 31 books – 25/31 for the month, 8 this week.
    • Crimson Stain(Jim Fisher) – this is a true crime story about an Amish man who killed his wife not very far from where we live(It happened when I was about 8 years old). Finished this on Sunday.
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 38/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • The Beltane Kiss(Denise D Young) – Started this Saturday night. Finished it Sunday morning.
    • A Geek Girls Guide to Arsenic(Julie Anne Lindsey) – Started this Monday morning. Finished it Tuesday morning. Loved it. Not sure I’ve ever felt such kinship to a character as I do Mia(particularly the social awkwardness).
    • Under Pressure(Lori Foster) – Started this Tuesday afternoon. Finished it Friday evening. Really enjoyed it.
    • The Defiant Hero(Suzanne Brockmann) – Finished reading this Wednesday night. Enjoyed it for the most part.
    • The Brightest Day(Various) – There’s four novellas in this collection. I finished them all yesterday. Really enjoyed the first and last one.
    • Power Play(Katherine Stark) – Finished this Friday afternoon. Enjoyed it, though there were a few moments I had issue with.
    • Love After All(Jaci Burton) – started this Friday night. Finished it Saturday night. Liked it.
    • Hallowed Ground(Rebecca Yarros) – started this morning. At 5%.

Crafting:

  • Knit: Georgian Lace Cap – Finished this Tuesday morning. Have 4/4 rounds knitted for the brim. 40/40 rounds knitted for cap lace section. 11/11 for crown decreases.
  • Crochet: Cross-over Long DC Hat – Have 28/28 rounds crocheted for hat. 5/6 rounds crocheted for brim.
  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf & Last Minute Slouchy Hat – realized the slouchy hat uses a loom I don’t have, so I’m cutting it off the list.

RoW80 2017 Round 1 Wrap-Up

Today is the official end of the first round of RoW80 for this year. So, even though I did a check-in post yesterday, I have my wrap up of the round’s goals today. I’ll have my monthly wrap-up and goals for the next round and month up next Sunday(4/2). But, for now, here’s how I did for the round:

#Row80 Round 1:

Plotting:

  • Loving the Devil – Outline – set this one aside. The idea wasn’t really forming well into a plot.
  • Playing With Fire(Flames #6/The Rileys #1) – Outline – this is done. It’ll be my main writing project in April.
  • Heart of Christmas(BC Security novella) – I’m working on the story toolkit for this one.
  • High on Your Love(Kurztown #6) – Didn’t get to this one.

Writing:

  • In the Moonlight – 1st draft – Yes! Wrote 14964 words to finish it.
  • Crash and Burn – 1st draft – Yes! Wrote 16098 words to finish it.
  • Defending the Heart – 1st draft – Yes! Wrote 38768 words to finish it.

  • Not Meant to Be – add 12000 words – only managed 3683/12000. I changed how I was doing things, so this one got set aside. I think I’ll be getting back to it in May on the new schedule.
  • Loving the Devil – start drafting – no. This one’s shelved at least for now.
  • Playing with Fire – start drafting – I did start this. 6617 words. I’ll get back to it in April.
  • Heart of Christmas – start drafting – No. I don’t have this planned until August now.

Revising:

  • Demons Rising – Revise – Still nothing on this
  • Flames of Renewal – Send to CP & do edits if I get it back before the end of the round – sent it to CP, but haven’t got it back yet.
  • Snow White Twist – Fill in Details – this is done & I did the read through. Ready to start revisions, which I’m hoping to have done by the end of the month.

Side Projects:

  • Midas’ Daughter – Get to 13000 words – 10441/13000 words
  • Dance with the Devil – finish 1st draft – done!

Blogging:

  • Row80 – keep up to date with own posts & others – did pretty well with this.

  • Read: 90 books – 77/90 books.

Crafting:

  • Knit: 3 projects – 3/3 projects
  • Crochet: 3 projects – 2/3 projects. Close to finishing the third, though.
  • Loom: 3 projects – 1/3 projects

Overall, it was a pretty good round. Looking forward to the next one.

Writing Wednesday: Still Smoking

I definitely think I like my new way of getting things done. I’m working on my writing goals for the first half of each hour. And during the second half, I’ll work through the other things on my list. And once I’m done with my writing goals, I’ll concentrate on the other t0-do items. Yesterday, doing this, the only thing I didn’t get done was my reading. So, I think I’m going to continue with it for now. At least until it isn’t working for me anymore.

Stepmother-in-law brought this back for us from her recent trip to Iceland.

The kids had Monday off from school(they also had last Friday off). So we decided to all get our eyes checked out. I’ve had to wear glasses since I was about twelve. Husband wears them on occasion, but doesn’t need them all the time. Last year we got the kids’ checked and the girl was a little far-sighted, but they said that often corrects as they grow. And this year hers was pretty much perfect. So was the boy’s. Mine haven’t changed enough to matter. And I just got new ones last year, so I wasn’t worried about it. Husband got news ones, though.

The reason we decided to do this now was because we still had a lot in his HSA through work. Which rolls over at the end of the month, and only so much of it will roll over. Well, he went to use it after our appointments, and it was declined. Looking into it, they’d deactivated all the cards because they’re moving to another company. Well, they weren’t supposed to deactivate them until next week. It would have been really nice to know beforehand. We ended up having to pay out of pocket, and the company is going to reimburse us. But, yeah, it kind of defeats the purpose of the health savings account when you can’t even use it.

Anyway, rant over, and it’s WiPPet Wednesday again! Woohoo!! I’m still working on Stay a Little Longer this morning. So, you get another snippet from that. Some context: They’re still at Jess’s daughter’s birthday party, and Terrall and Mike are talking. They share some similar history, but from different perspectives. Mike’s mother was killed in a drunk driving accident. His father was the one driving. Terrall was involved in a different one. Which is what they’re talking about here. There’s 7 paragraphs(3+2+2) here.

He shook his head. “I hardly drink anymore. An occasional beer, but I won’t get behind the wheel if I’ve had more than that.”
“Figured that. From what I heard from family and neighbors, Dad still drinks. Heavily. And doesn’t always wait for someone to come pick him up. That makes a big difference between him and you.”
A small figure came rushing into the kitchen before Terrall could respond to that. “Daddy, I want more fruit, but the tray’s gone.”
He laughed and lifted her to his side. “I was just refilling it, Alexa,” he said. “This is your mommy’s friend, Terrall,” he said, nodding toward him.
She turned to look at him, seemed to be studying him. Even though she had her father’s darker skin—a lighter shade, though—and his dark hair and eyes, he could see Jess in her, too. “Are you a friend like Fadil is Daddy’s friend?” she asked.
Mike snorted but left Terrall to answer the question himself. Great. “I’d like to be,” he said. “But, that’ll be up to your mama to decide.”
“Smart answer,” Mike said as he set his daughter down and picked up the tray.

Kids can certainly be perceptive. 🙂

Now on to my progress so far this week. This is also the end of Round 1 of RoW80. This post is already pretty long, though, so I’ll have my wrap-up for that tomorrow.
