Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Not Home”

Welcome to another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors. I have more from Into the Sun for you, which I finally bit the bullet on and submitted Saturday morning. I have 8 sentences today from just a little past last week’s.

She grabbed my arms and pulled me into the house. “Oh, Trace, you’re back,” she said, kissing my face. “I’m so glad you decided to come home. I’ve missed you so much.”
I made myself pull back from her. “I’m not home, Mom. I just had to see you. Talk to you.”

What does he have to say to her? Well it go the way he hopes? Hang around. You might find out.

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag this week. Started out strong with over 3k on Monday. Tuesday’s count was less but still not bad. Wednesday I barely managed 1k and I think I’m going to re-plot and start over on that story because it’s been giving me trouble since I started it. Hoping I can figure out what the problem is with it, otherwise I may end up just scrapping it. Thursday I did some outlining and Friday was another pretty strong day. Overall not a bad week,  just not as productive as I’d like.

Today we took the motorcycleout for probably one of the last rides of the season. It was …a little chilly. Even with chaps, leather jacket, vest, and gloves. But the newseat made it a much more comfortable ride. It also may have helped start to clear up my problem with By the Gun.

  • Write 12k words – 11,011 words. Considering the trouble I had with By the Gun on Wednesday, this isn’t too bad. Hoping for more next week.
  • Outline Bryan & Leo – didn’t get this quite finished. Got the first chapter summary done. Hoping to finish it this week, maybe even get a few words written on it.
  • Stained Blood (forgot to include this originally: Read Through – finished the read through. Not a lot of big changes other than a scene or two I might add in.
  • Into the Sun – Submit – Like I said above, I finally bit the bullet on this one yesterday morning. Now, I wait.
  • Just Add Moonlight – Read Through & Revision Notes – Hoping to get to this one today.
  • Read: 2k-10k – 35% – Got to this. Already putting some of it into practice.
  • Read: Bare It All (Lori Foster), Instant Gratification (Jill Shalvis), Inflame (Tessa Teevan), Just a Little Crush (Renita Pizzitola), Someday Girl (Melanie Shawn) – Finished Inflame Thursday night even though I kept telling myself I should go to bed already. 11:30 and I finally did. Because the book was done. Also listened to The Clockwork princess (Cassandra Clare)and Buried(Kendra Elliot). Loved them both.
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket – Strip 18 – still making slow progress on this.

Goals for next week:

  • Write: 3k each on Let It Begin, Guarding the Heart, and Some Fools Never Learn
  • Outline: Bryan & Leo & By the Gun
  • Revise: Stained Blood – 2nd round revisions.  If time: start polishing
  • Just Add Moonlight: Flesh out
  • Read: 2k – 10k – 60%
  • Read: Just a Little Crush,  Someday Girl, City of Lost Souls (Cassandra Clare), Showdown at Yellow Butte (Louis L’Amour ), All For You (Jessica Scott), & Behind the Scenes (Dahlia Adler)
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – ‘Just a House’

Time for another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors,  the blog hop for anyone who likes to write. I’m moving along here in Into the Sun. This is a few scenes pay what I’ve been sharing.  10 sentences.

I stood across the street from the house I’d grown up in, but I saw it from new eyes now. I used to dread coming home from school, like I walked straight toward my personal torture chamber. Everything about it had felt dark.
Now, I looked and didn’t see any of that. It was just a house. Only four walls and a roof. The house itself was painted a light blue, white shutters around the windows. The front porch drooped slightly. Henry had talked the last couple years about ripping it out and putting in a new one.
He never had, and he’d made that my fault somehow.

So,  why is Trace back at that house?  What is he going to do?  Hang around,  and I just might tell you.  😉

This weekend was our town’s Homecoming.  We took the kids to the football game Friday night.  Started to leave after the 3rd quarter when we were losing 26-0. Husband ended up talking to someone on our way out for the last quarter,  during which the other team scored another touchdown.  So, yeah, that was bad.  Saturday was the homecoming parade.  Kids got a bunch of candy,  we had lunch  (pulled pork – yum) at our church then the kids jumped in the bounce house for a while.  Then we went to the library book sale.  5 books for $1.28 (what I had left in my wallet) MiL bought the kids some books, too (11 between them).

the girl has another birthday party to go to today.  I’m looking forward to the week to stay to recoup from all the betting around people.

This round of Row80 is over,  but I’m still taking my goals. I will be for next week too,  because that’s just how I work.

  • Guarding the Heart(BC Security #1) – add 9000 words – I was really close on this.  8948 words.  I’d wanted to get it above 54k,  and I did manage that.  So it’s a semi win
  • By the Gun (western standalone) – 6000 words – not so close on this one. 3552 words.  It’s been a slow start on this one.
  • Stained Blood (Stained #3) – revision note cards. If time: 1st revisions – got the note cards finished on Thursday.  Only got through 1 chapter of revisions. Not because there was a lot to do,  but I lost motivation.  Going to find it so I can get these done.
  • Into the Sun – finish proofreading & submit – got through a little more proofreading yesterday. Hoping to do more today.
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants – I’m 95% through this.
  • Read: Wings (Aprilynne Pike), Heartless (L.S Engler ), On the Fence(Kasie West), & Openly Straight (Bill Konigsberg) – finished these.  Loved On the Fence and Openly Straight.  Reading Bone Gap (Laura Ruby) now.
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket – still making progress.  Still not even halfway finished with it.

Making good progress even if I haven’t crossed a lot off the list. Hoping for even more next week

  • Write 12k words across writing projects (would be more but 1 is still in plotting stage)
  • Stained Blood – 1st round revisions.  If time: read through
  • into the Sun: Finish proofreading & submit
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants – finish
  • Read: Bone Gap, Between (Megan Whitmer), Dust off the Dead Sea (Angela Kulig)
  • ROW80 sponsor post
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Not as Wounded”

Another Sunday, another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors. Still sharing from Into the Sun, which I’m hoping to have all polished up this weekend. 8 sentences from a later scene from last week’s.

I turned away even if it wasn’t what I really wanted to. I could hear Barbie behind me. “Careful with that boy, Birdie. He’s got a lot of hurt places inside him.”
I cringed, and I could almost feel each of those places. Then, Birdie said, “He’s not as wounded as you want to treat him. He’s tough to have made it here. I think he’ll survive me, too.”

This shouldn’t surprise anyone who had been following me for any length of time,  but I’ve changed what I’m working on again.  Yeah,  yeah,  I know.  I don’t know why but Wednesday the urge struck me to read over Burning Bright. This is the first in a spin off from my Flames series. And I miss these characters so much.  So I looked at my calendars.  I wouldn’t be getting back to drafting them until next November.  That’s just too long to wait.  I have 4 series (I’m including Flames & its series as one series) &  my list of standalones. So I went through and randomly picked one thing to work on each day.  So I could work on up to 5 different things in a week(this week I’m working on 2)  Hopefully this will appease my need to work on all the things. I’ll be writing in the morning (first half of every hour) and editing in the afternoon (second half of each hour). Those half hours I’m not writing or editing,  I’ll be working on the other stiff on my to-do list.  Doing it this way has me finished editing everything that’s currently drafted by the end of January 2016. As I finish drafting,  I’ll add to that. But,  I think this might work for me. I have more trouble focusing on drafting in the afternoon anyway.

  • Let It Begin – 25k (that’s 5k a day.  I should be able to get this, but we’ll see) – I managed about 17700 words this week.  A little past the midpoint (so may be a little longer than originally planned) according to new schedule I’ll get back to this early October.
  • Leo & Bryan – finish back stories – I did write about a page of Bryan’s back story.  I’ll be getting back to this in a week.
  • Into the Sun – finish proofreading & submit – I got more proofreading done on this yesterday. May get more done today,  but most likely finishing it next week.
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants – 70% – got to this point. Don’t know if I’ll be using anything from this method or not.
  • Read: Hot Head(Damon Suede), The Falconer (Elizabeth May), Wings (Aprilynne Pike), & Heartless (L.S. Engler) – reading had been slow this week for some reason.  Have gotten through a few audiobooks though.
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket – made some progress on this

Goals for next week:

  • Guarding the Heart(BC Security #1) – add 9000 words
  • By the Gun (western standalone) – 6000 words
  • Stained Blood (Stained #3) – revision note cards. If time: 1st revisions
  • Into the Sun – finish proofreading & submit
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants
  • Read: Wings (Aprilynne Pike), Heartless (L.S Engler ), On the Fence(Kasie West), & Openly Straight (Bill Konigsberg)
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket – hoping to be at least halfway finished with this

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “After Me”

Welcome back for another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors,  the blog hop for anyone who loves to write.  Still sharing from Into the Sun,  this is a little farther on from last week’s.  Trace is asking Icarus why he never tried to find them.

“I never knew about you, Trace. I did try to find her. But, apparently the old man, whose name was not Grady by the way, hid her away before he kicked the bucket. If Hawk wasn’t so good at sniffing people out, I may not have found her now.”
“What do you mean his name wasn’t Grady? Mom said-”
“My name is Grady,” Icarus interrupted me. “So was my father, so technically she didn’t lie. Grady Evan Hartson. She named you after me.”

Saturday afternoon we took the kids to see the Minions movie in the theater. It was the boy’s first time,  but the girl had gone before for a friend’s birthday.  They knew they were going to grandma’s, but we hadn’t told them about the movie. Well, the girl didn’t take the surprise to well.  She finally calmed down when grandma showed up at the theater too. Just have to remember she doesn’t take surprises/changes to plans very well.  They both enjoyed it. I dropped my large container of popcorn when we got to our seats, so I felt like an idiot,  but it was still a good time.  Then grandma took them to her house and is keeping them overnight,  so we actually get an adult night out. Going to a local bar to see a friend of my husband’s band play(I’m actually typing this up before we go, so no details on how that is).

So,  this week has been pretty good.  Though,  you wouldn’t know from looking at my word count spreadsheet.  According to it, I’ve written a negative number of words.  This is normal when I’m in the middle of revisions.  I’ll be drafting a new story this coming week,  so I’ll actually have new words this time.

  • Scars and All: Read Through.  Possibly: 2nd revisions.  If time: start polishing round – I finished the read through, revisions,  and 2/3 through the polishing round.  I’ll put this aside this week while I draft Let It Begin,  then pick it back up the following week.
  • Leo & Bryan – keep plotting – haven’t done anything on this while trying to stay caught up on everything else.
  • Into the Sun: proofread & submit – I did a little proofreading yesterday morning. Going to do more today,  but may not have it finished and ready to submit until next weekend.
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants – 45% – did get to this point.
  • Read: Sweetest Mistake(Candis Terry), Run the Risk(Lori Foster), The Klaus Brothers set(Penny Watson), & Hot Head(Damon Suede) – really enjoyed Sweetest Mistake and Run the Risk.  Just started the Klaus Brothers set.  Nothing like reading Christmas stories when is still warm out(okay,  not so warm this weekend as it’s rainy and windy,  but it has been warm). May not get to Hot Head this week.
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket – I’ve made some progress on this but not nearly as much as I’d wanted to.

So goals for next week:

  • Let It Begin – 25k (that’s 5k a day.  I should be able to get this, but we’ll see)
  • Leo & Bryan – finish back stories
  • Into the Sun – finish proofreading & submit
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants – 70%
  • Read: Hot Head(Damon Suede), The Falconer (Elizabeth May), Wings (Aprilynne Pike), & Heartless (L.S. Engler)
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Takes Me Back”

Welcome to another edition of Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop for anyone who likes to write. Today I have 8 sentences from a little farther on from where I left off last week. Trace has just handed Icarus a picture he took from an old photo album his mom had.

He took it, unfolding it. “God, this takes me back,” he said. “When did you find out?”
“That Henry Kearns wasn’t my father? Since I was fifteen. That you were? When you said she told you that you flew too close to the sun. She told me the same thing when I was leaving.”

My son’s birthday was Thursday.  The big 5. wpid-wp-1441394291551.jpgIt was also 9 years since my father-in-law passed away.  Yeah,  it’s a bittersweet day. We gave the boy his gifts that night,  but we’re having his actual party this afternoon. wpid-wp-1441394313070.jpgOh yay, people in my house again (this is the problem with kids’ birthdays being so close. 2 parties in a month). Planning on going out on the bike with husband tomorrow,  though,  so that should help drain some of the anxiety.

As for this week’s goals:

  • Scars and All: Finish revisions, Possibly: read through, if still time: 2nd revisions – I did get revisions finished on Friday.  I cut over 5 in scenes then assured a little more than 6k in new words.
  • Into the Sun: revisions – finished these yesterday. Added almost 400 words.  Still need to proofread,  though.
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants(Libbie Hawker) – outlining book before anyone asks. 😉 – 20% through.
  • Read: Turning Pointe, Against the Law(Kat Martin), The Demon in the Wood(Leigh Bardugo), & Winning Streak(Katie Kenyhercz) – enjoyed everything(though was a little disappointed that Demon in the Wood ended at 45%. The rest was an excerpt for Six of Crows, which I am really looking forward to, especially after that excerpt). I finished Winning Streak today and started Sweetest Mistake (Candis Terry).
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket making slow progress on this.  I don’t know why I forget every time how time consuming blankets are. One of these days I might remember.
  • Also working on plotting out the first of 2 novellas I plan to write for NaNoWriMo this year (yes,  I’m going to be a bit of a rebel). I have the brainstorming done and the first back story written out. Leo’s story took me a little by surprise and even broke my heart a bit. I’ll keep working on this when I have everything else finished.

wpid-wp-1441394327944.jpg

Now,  for next week’s goals:

  • Scars and All: Read Through.  Possibly: 2nd revisions.  If time: start polishing round
  • Leo & Bryan – keep plotting
  • Into the Sun: proofread & submit
  • Read: Take Off Your Pants – 45%
  • Read: Sweetest Mistake(Candis Terry), Run the Risk(Lori Foster), The Klaus Brothers set(Penny Watson), & Hot Head(Damon Suede)
  • Knit: Cuddly Chevron Blanket

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Another Stray”

It’s the weekend again, so time for another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop for everyone who likes to write. Still sharing from Into the Sun, which I just finished on Friday. I have 8 sentences today, with a new character, Barbie(who is Bull’s wife).

I didn’t have a clue what they were talking about. But, her eyes came to me then, and I felt that panic well up again. “Take in another stray, Icarus?”
“You try to pet this one, Barbie, and he’ll bolt right out of here.”
Her eyes softened as if she understood exactly what he meant. But, still, that term rankled. “I’m not a stray,” I muttered. “I’m not worthless.”

We had the boy’s K-4 orientation Wednesday night. He has the same teacher the girl did(well, one. They do it differently now. For her, it had been one big class, this one is separated into two). 1 or 2 kids he knows from preschool are in his class, as well as a friend’s daughter(her older brother is in the girl’s class this year as well).

Minion hat he made at K-4 orientation

Minion hat he made at K-4 orientation

Then, the kids had their yearly check-ups on Thursday. The boy is tall & skinny(about 60% for height and 40% for weight) & the girl is short & skinny(about 23% for height & 30 for weight). This is right about where they’ve always run. He’s only about 4 inches shorter than her now.

We went down to the Crawford County Fair yesterday afternoon/evening. I used to spend most days of fair week out there with my sisters/cousins. Now, we’re lucky to get down one day. But, we checked out some of the horses, sheep, pigs, goats, and cows. Ate some fair food, saw some tractors and had ice cream(even the small cone is pretty big). And for anyone who has picked up First Choice, Second Chance, this is where some of the scenes are set.

He has friends’ birthday party(their twins) to go to today, so the girl and I will probably hang at the bookstore for a while. Our favorite place to be.

  • Demons Rising: Polish – finished this on Thursday. Ended up cutting 3881 words. It’s still a little over 90k.
  • Guarding the Heart: Finish Chapter 18 – heh. Nope. After Wednesday, I decided to just set this aside for now. I was only adding a little a day, and my attention felt too scattered. It actually got moved to my calendar for next year, so that might be when I pick it back up.
  • Into the Sun: Finish 1st draft – YES! FINALLY! I started this at the very end of March. Mostly worked on it over the weekends. Originally had planned on it being a short story, ~3k. Hahaha. Realized I had more story than that but doubted I had enoughf or novella length. Another HAHAHA. It’s a couple hundred short of 30k. Not bad for starting with a vague idea. Added 3580 words this week. Next weekend I’ll start revising it.
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict – get through 75% – did this too. I’ll finish this week.
  • Read: Make It Count(Megan Erickson), & Second Chance at the Sugar Shack(Candis Terry) – Finished both of these. Also read The Guy Next Door(anthology) and was kind of ‘meh’ about it. I started a couple other ones, but ended up setting them aside. Then, read Flirting with Disaster(Victoria Dahl). Really enjoyed this one. Also read Wicked Path(Eliza Tilton) and Sweet Memories(Steena Holmes). And I started Forgotten Ages(Lindsay Buroker).
  • Flames of Justice – wasn’t going to start working on this until September, but I finished Demons Rising early. I got the note cards for revisions finished, so I’ll be starting revisions next week.

I’m doing my writing goals a little different. Going to work in the morning, before kids are up, then again until the boy gets home from school(starting Tuesday). Then, I’ll get everything else done and go back to writing goals until the girl gets home. So, goals for next week:

  • Flames of Justice – 1st round of revisions. Possibly: start read through. If still have time: 2nd round of revisions
  • Into the Sun – Read through & revision plan
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict – finish

I’ve finished all the books on my list for the month, so I’m not including it in my list even though I’ll still be reading.

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Would Have Been”

Another weekend(actually it’s Thursday as I type this. Shhhh), another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors. Still sharing from my short story-turned-novella, Into the Sun. Last week, we left off with some questions. This week, some might be answered.(I’ll answer one: they offered for Trace to go home with them. That’s what they’d been discussing). This follows telling Icarus he was named after his grandfather, but called Trace.

One side of his mouth tipped up at that. “Didn’t go for Trey, huh?”
“Stepdad said it sounded too prissy.”
I saw Icarus’ jaw clench at that. “I’m a junior as well. There used to be a girl who I thought wanted to be with me, and we talked about kids. Our son would have been a Trey.”
“Wh-what happened to her?”
“Just up and left one day. Said I flew too close to the sun.”

Trace has heard very similar words to that before. And Icarus did leave out a bit of that story, but might get to that later.

Like I said above, I started writing this up on Thursday. This week has been crazy productive. I finished my read through on Wednesday and had all the notes typed up in Scrivener on Thursday. A full day ahead of schedule. I even got through about half of Friday’s to-do list while the kids were shopping with their great-grandma(who lives next door). I had about 3.5 hours to myself.

  • Demons Rising: Read Through on my Kindle – finished the read through on Wednesday. Had over 300 notes. Of course, most of these were about splitting paragraphs. Some were at least a full page on my kindle, and I don’t like that. Also have 2 more scenes I want to add in(ended up only adding 1 in. Didn’t think the other was needed after all). To a MS that’s already my longest yet. I also finished revisions Friday. Added about 287 words total(had been closer to 400 then cut some more).
  • Guarding the Heart: Work through Chapter 17(this will be early morning project) – I did get through this. It was only 1(rather steamy, you may have figured if you read Wednesday’s post) scene, but I still finished it. 😉 I wrote 1240 words
  • Into the Sun: finish 1st draft – not yet. As of Thursday, I’d written 1310 words. And I added another 244 Saturday morning.
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict – 50% did this on Wednesday.
  • Read: Debt Collector: Season 1(Susan Kaye Quinn), Murder by the Seaside(Julie Anne Lindsey), & Everly After(Rebecca Paula) – finished all 3 of these and enjoyed them. Also read Stone of Destiny(Laura Howard). I enjoyed the first book but didn’t feel all connected to the character’s in this one. Still plan to finish off the trilogy, though. I also read Dare to Submit(Carly Phillips), which I really enjoyed, The Mackenzies: Dane, Thomas, Riley, Cooper & A Mackenzie Christmas(Lilliana Hart). I usually really like her stuff, but I really couldn’t buy the “I’ve known you/been with you 1 night & we’re in love”. Then, I read Something Like Normal(Trish Doller). Absolutely loved this one. I usually go to bed around 9, but I kept going “I’m just going to read a little more.” Then, it was after 11, and I was finished with it. I started and finished A Magic Dark & Bright(Jenny Adams Perinovic) by just after lunchtime Saturday. So, so good. But that ending…gah. *bites nails until book 2 comes out* I also got about 75% through Make It Count(Megan Erickson) yesterday.
  • Crochet: Spring Training Cap – finished this on Thursday, too. The baseball stitches aren’t quite centered. IMG_0801IMG_0800

Obviously I need to readjust how much I figure I can get done in a week. I had figured one revising step a week. But, I got 2 done this week. I’ll have to do some thinking on this.

For next week:

  • Demons Rising: Polish
  • Guarding the Heart: Finish Chapter 18(once I start polishing DR)
  • Into the Sun: Finish 1st draft
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict – get through 75%
  • Read: Make It Count(Megan Erickson), & Second Chance at the Sugar Shack(Candis Terry)

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Just a Boy”

Time for another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop for everyone who likes to write. I am, once again, writing this up on Friday. But, as I’ve finished everything for the week, this counts as my weekend, right? Anyway, I have 10 sentences following shortly after last week’s snippet. The three men are talking away from Trace, but he can still hear them.

”Think he’s trouble, Cap’n. Or it could follow him.”
“He’s just a boy.” Icarus’ voice, still soft, but with steel behind it. “And there’s something ’bout him.”
That had my stomach twisting in knots. Did he see it too?
“Looks like he could use a few good nights sleep,” a rumbling voice said. “And extra meals.”
“God, he reminds me of someone.”

So, who does Trace remind Icarus of? Is he going to bring trouble? Just what are they planning? Come back next week, and you might find out. 😉

IMG_0785

We had my daughter’s 8th birthday party yesterday. 8, really? How did that happen?(Yes, I know how it actually happened, but still…) It went well, and she got some new toys, clothes, and books(and notebooks and pencils, of course).

gift from one of her school friends

Today, Daddy is taking her out for breakfast and possibly bringing pizza home for dinner tomorrow night for her actual birthday. And then, 3 1/2 weeks until the boy’s birthday.

Since I’m starting to write this on Friday, it’s probably obvious how this week has gone. 😀 I really thought it would take longer to do revisions on Demons Rising. I didn’t rewrite as much as I thought I’d have to. I still may end up rewriting those scenes, for now I reworked a few things. And I threw one scene out entirely(well moved to a ‘cut scenes’ folder in my scrivener folder in case I want to put it back in).

  • Demons Rising: Round 1 Revisions – DONE!! Added over 7800 words to this. Now, sitting at just under 95k. That’s long for one of mine, usually they’re between 80-85k or even under that.
  • Into the Sun: Try to finish Edited: forgot about this – have added 1525 words this weekend. Getting close to the finish & having ideas for more stories with these characters.
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, and Conflict(Debra Dixon) – 25% – got this done
  • Read: Scratch(Rhonda Helms), Pivot Point(Kasie West), & Love the Way You Lie(Skye Warren) – I had these done by Wednesday’s check-in. Have also read Curious(R.G. Alexander) – really enjoyed- and finished No Limits(Lori Foster) yesterday. Liked it. Although there are tie-ins to a series I haven’t read yet(have it on my list now, though). Also finished listening to Hidden(Kendra Elliot) and really liked it. Apparently I should have listened to these before the Callahan & McLane series, since they happened before and we see some of the same characters. But…*shrug*
  • Knit: Hive Dishcloth – Finished this on Friday.IMG_0774

For next week:

  • Demons Rising: Read Through on my Kindle
  • Guarding the Heart: Work through Chapter 17(this will be early morning project)
  • Into the Sun: finish 1st draft
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict – 50%
  • Read: Debt Collector: Season 1(Susan Kaye Quinn), Murder by the Seaside(Julie Anne Lindsey), & Everly After(Rebecca Paula)
  • Crochet: Spring Training Cap

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – ‘On the Run’

Welcome to another edition of Weekend Writing Warriors(I’m actually writing this up on Friday-woohoo for being ahead-that counts as the weekend, still, right?). I’m still sharing from Into the Sun. 10 sentences from a few paragraph’s down from last week’s snippet.

Icarus cast looks between the other two men that I couldn’t quite read. “You ain’t on the run, are you?” the one with all the tattoos, his name patch read Bull, asked.
“Like from the law?” At Bull’s slight nod, I let out a small laugh. “Not ‘less you count my stepdad. He’s a deputy back in…where I came from.”
Icarus’ eyes went hot. “He hurt you, son? That why you’re running?”
“I just wanted to get away.”

So, what’s with all these questions? And who are these guys?

Friday night we went on a memorial ride for one of the members of the club my husband’s in who died a couple years ago. It was a good ride and we had fun at the after party. Although we didn’t get home until after midnight. Which my husband will tell you, is about 3 hours past my bedtime. 🙂 And I felt it a bit Saturday morning.

The kids stayed with my mom Friday night and my MiL took them to a parade Saturday. We didn’t get up until 7 Saturday morning(this is the height of me sleeping in). So, we were able to get girl’s birthday gifts shopped for without me making an excuse to have to go somewhere else in the store(how it happens most years). We picked them back up from her house on our way home, but they’ll be with her again tomorrow since we’re going on another ride(this will make 3 in the last week). This one is held by RAACA(Riders Advocating Against Child Abuse).

And as for my RoW80 check-in:

  • Demons Rising(title subject to change, as there are no actual demons in the story): do reverse outline on notecards – finished these on Thursday and looked through on Friday to see where I needed to add some scenes in/or split scenes.

the smaller blank ones, overlaying the others, are where I need to add in scenes

  • Guarding the Heart: finish Chapter 15(hoping to get to Chapter 16 as well, but who knows) – I actually did get through Chapter 16. I’m going to set this aside while I get through this round of revisions on Demons Rising. I added 2877 words this week.
  • Into the Sun: finish 1st draft(I know basically how I want to do this, so we’ll see if the words cooperate) – still not finished, but likely just a few more scenes to go. I’ve added 4136 this week(so much for this being a side project)
  • Read: Finish Super Structure – finished reading this
  • Read: Finish Straight from the Hip, and work through other free books – I read Straight From the Hip(Susan Mallery), Hot as Hades(Cynthia Rayne), and Silken Threads(Patricia Ryan). Also finished Dirty London(Kelley York) yesterday. Really enjoyed this. And I finished listening to Caressed by Ice(Nalini Singh) and started The Sweetest Seduction(Christa McHugh).
  • Crochet: Amazing Grace Blissful Beanie – finished this earlier this week.

And since another month had passed(how does this keep happening?), time to do a recap of my month. I didn’t win Camp NaNo, I can tell you that much. About 5k from my goal. I usually don’t have a problem hitting 50k in a month, but I worked on revisions/edits for 3 different stories. And those numbers tend to be smaller. This will be the first time I haven’t won since like 2012(I think). But, I’m not too worried about it. Just going to keep on.

Plotting:

  • Ready When You Are(Kelan’s Story) – finish outline
  • Jessica’s Story – Outline – this got moved when I reorganized my project schedule. Will be a while before I get to it.

Writing:

  • Burning Bright – finish 1st draft finished this earlier this month at 71721 words. 5845 of those were added this month.
  • Guarding the Heart – 1st draft ran into a snag with this one and ended up putting it on a side burner while I worked on revisions. Have added almost 30k to it, though.
  • Into the Sun – finish – yeah, still not quite there yet. Close, though. I’ve added over 7200 to it this month.

Editing:

  • The Choice – beta edits(even tho I never heard back from the 2nd beta reader) did this and even sent to & got back from proofreader & all set up for release next month.
  • Law of Choice – 2nd round revisions & polish – got this all ready to send out to my CP whenever she’s ready for it.
  • anything else I get back from CPs/beta readers – have 3 things out, but didn’t get any of them back this month.

Reading:

  • Listen/read 16 books – 24/16 5 of those were audiobooks(not counting the 3 that were re-listens)
  • Read 1 craft/research book –read Super Structure(James Scott Bell)

Crafting:

  • Knit: Dino Cap
    IMG_0755
  • Crochet: Amazing Grace Blissful Beanie
    IMG_0763

And for next month:

Revising:

  • Demons Rising – finish revisons & polish(this may be a bit of a reach. Depends on how long it takes to get through 1st round of revisions)
  • Revise anything I get back from CP/Beta

Writing:

  • Guarding the Heart – get through Chapter 20
  • Into the Sun – finish 1st draft & revise*

Reading:

  • Listen/Read: 16 books
  • Read 1 craft/research book

Crafting:

  • Knit: Hive dishcloth
  • Crochet: Spring Training Cap

And for this week:

  • Demons Rising: Round 1 Revisions
  • Into the Sun: Try to finish
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, and Conflict(Debra Dixon)
  • Read: Scratch(Rhonda Helms), Pivot Point(Kasie West), & Love the Way You Lie(Skye Warren)
  • Knit: Hive Dishcloth

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – ‘All the Way Up’

Another week over, another jump into the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop. This week’s snippet takes place just a couple paragraphs down from last week’s. All three of these men have name patches on their vests: Icarus(the man in the middle from previous snippets), Bull, and Hawk. Icarus is the one speaking in the first line.

“That your bike there?”
“Y-yes, sir.”
That got a full out grin from the man. “I don’t usually get called that. Do I, Bull?”
“No, Cap’n, you sure don’t,” one of the men answered.
I glanced over at the man and swallowed. My stepfather was strong, but this man could outmuscle him any day. His knuckles had ink on them, and it ran all the way up his arms. I’d never seen so many tattoos in my life, let alone on one guy.

I’ve actually made quite a bit of progress on this during the week. Among other things. I’m about 2 weeks ahead of my schedule. Well, I was until I adjusted it. I got a new corkboard yesterday, that I can use for my editing notecards. The other one I had wasn’t big enough to fit everything and wouldn’t stay up on the wall.

Had some ideas simmering over the weekend for book 4 in my Kurztown series. The problem? I haven’t even started plotting book 3 yet.  Then, I realized that the two should probably be switched. This one should come first. I don’t know when I’ll get around to plotting it, but I might put a few notes down, at least.

Yesterday we went to my cousin’s stag & drag(for anyone not familiar, basically a combined bachelor/ette party. This was also basically their bridal shower too. It was a good time. We didn’t take the kids’ swim stuff, so they ended up swimming in their clothes. Not a big deal, except they were still wet when it was time to go home. I even had a couple family members ask when my next book was coming out.

Today, husband and I are going on a motorcycle ride. This will be my first big ride really. We’d gone on another one, but it was raining & not many people rode. We’re doing another ride Friday night, and the kids are staying over with my mom.

As for how I did on my goals for the week: haha. I changed them at the beginning of the week. So, I’ll just go from my reworked goals on Wednesday.

  • Law of Choice: Finish layering in details – DONE!! As in done, done & polished up, ready to go to my CP when she’s ready for it.
  • Guarding the Heart: Finish Chapter 15 – yeah, no, not yet. I did add 1480 to it. I’ve only been working on it in the mornings before the kids wake up. Then, switching to revisions for the rest of the day. I’m planning to continue this…for now, at least. The next one I’m revising will actually have big rewrites, I think, so I’ll probably set this aside while doing those.
  • Into the Sun – get to 17500 words(about 750 words away from this) – I met this goal this morning actually. In fact, it’s over 18k right now. I’ve added 1834 words to it this week(have been bouncing between it and Guarding the Heart in the mornings). I just might have it finished by the end of the month.
  • Read: Super Structure to 2/3 through – got this too.
  • Read: Finish Go with Me – finished this, and enjoyed it, though I had some issues with it. Also read Find Me When the Sun Goes Down(Lisa Olsen). The end pretty much broke my heart. Then, I went to add the next book to my wish list and ended up buying it instead. Oops? Also read Nice Girls Don’t Ride(Roni Loren). Loved it as much as I did when I read it as part of the Riding Desire boxed set. And I’m about 60% through Straight From the Hip(Susan Mallery). I got the first 3 books in this series from my MiL, don’t know if I like them enough to go out and buy the 4th(maybe if I see it at a book sale or the used book store). I also listened to Top Dog. I don’t usually listen(or read, except for research) non-fiction, but the fact it was about Marine dogs caught my attention(and it was on sale). And it was really good. Had me crying in a few spots too.
  • Crochet: Amazing Grace Blissful Beanie – just about finished with this. I should get it done later today.

Goals for next week:

  • Demons Rising(title subject to change, as there are no actual demons in the story): do reverse outline on notecards
  • Guarding the Heart: finish Chapter 15(hoping to get to Chapter 16 as well, but who knows)
  • Into the Sun: finish 1st draft(I know basically how I want to do this, so we’ll see if the words cooperate)
  • Read: Finish Super Structure
  • Read: Finish Straight from the Hip, and work through other free books
  • Crochet: Amazing Grace Blissful Beanie
