Sunday Summary: Pouring Down

Friday night, after my husband got home, we went to a graduation party. Pretty sure this is the last one for the year(thought that at the one we went to last month, too). But, since school starts in a little over a week, it’s likely true this time. While we were there, it started raining. No big deal, since it was just a sprinkle. And it was hot, so it felt kind of good. Then, it just started pouring. So, we all ran under the tents and huddled there while it thundered and lightning-ed and poured down. For probably about half an hour. After that, the field was pretty much a huge mud puddle. So, the kids(and the not-so-much-kids) ended up getting rather muddy. We were afraid the truck might not make it back up the hill when we left though.

Then, yesterday morning we went up to Ihop for breakfast(seriously love their strawberry & banana pancakes). This is the second time we’ve gone there since they opened at the end of May. After a couple months, you can finally get in there without the long wait times. Then, we went and looked at a new motorcycle. But, since they want twice a month what we’re paying now and we’re coming up on the time of year when husband’s unemployed, we decided to wait on that. Yesterday afternoon, we headed to my sister’s, where we were having a surprise party for my mom’s 60th birthday. Her birthday is actually next weekend, but we had it a little early. And she was surprised Especially when she saw my aunt Marcia* who she hasn’t seen in I think 9 years(at my oldest sister’s wedding). After that, we decided to head out to the local county fair, since we were close and weren’t sure if we’d be able to make it down during the week. Checked out a few of the animals, got some fair food and ice cream(the 4-H stand by the dairy barns has the best ice cream there). Then, we headed out. I used to enjoy spending days there, but anymore there’s just too many people for me to handle.

*Technically not my aunt any more. She was my dad’s brother’s first wife, but they’ve been divorced probably close to thirty years. But, we still call her aunt.

This week has gone pretty well, goal-wise.  got all the chapters back for Stained by Ashes, and I’m fairly close to finishing up the edits on that. Then, the final run-through, and it will be ready to go. Got some words written, though not on all my projects. But, I did finish up one of them. So, that’s something at least. Progress was made on plotting as well. So, like I said a good week.

  • Write 5000 words between 5 projects – 5952 words between 2 projects
    • Protecting the Heart – 3059 words & finished 1st draft – “Then, you’re in the same position as the rest of us poor saps. Thank goodness the women we love take pity on us for falling short.”
    • Shed Some Light – 2893 words – “Give him a little time, Tereza. He’ll come around.”She just wished she could believe he was right.
  • Stained by Ashes – finish revising Chapter 19 and any more I get back this week. – yep. I’m on the next to the last chapter. Like I said, I have the rest of the notes back from my second beta reader, and I’m adding more to the final showdown per her suggestions. I’ve added 493 words to this.
  • Healing the Heart – finish rewrites – finished these between chapters of SbA. Ended up cutting 1875 words. Now, I just have to do a clean-up before it goes to beta readers. So, if anyone is interested in betaing this(might help if you’ve read Duty to Protect but not completely necessary) let me know.
  • Guarding the Heart – layer in world building details – still haven’t touched this. Not looking likely for this month.
  • Defending the Heart – finish Piers’ back story, start Spenser’s – I did finish this! Didn’t start Spenser’s though. That will be for this week. I also wrote a piece yesterday involving the two of these. Not sure if it happens before Defending the Heart starts or near the beginning.
  • Side Projects – add 2500 words – decided to dial this back to 2000 again. But, I did end up getting 2224 words between all 5 projects. Also revised and polished another short story. Going to do a final read-through of it next weekend before submitting it.
    • Dance with the Devil – 782 words – He looked over at me then, his eyes glazed over. This wasn’t the boy I’d known, or the man who’d brought me into the fold here. This was something else entirely. Almost like he’d been possessed. I took a staggering step back from him, but he blinked and that look was gone from his face. He looked at me, and I swore that was anguish that came into his eyes.
    • Snow White Twist – 982 words – No. She couldn’t do it. She’d just have to keep her distance.
    • Patrick & Sarah – 181 words –   He could not imagine how it had to be for her, raising two boys with no man in the picture. *This takes place in the mid/late 1860s, to give some context to his thinking.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 134 words – But, the girl just smiled at him. It didn’t look particularly grateful. Brighter than that, like she knew a joke he wasn’t privy to
    • Roman – 147 words – “We’re breaking apart, and me going back home is just going to be the hammer blow that shatters everything.”
    • Midas’ Daughter – Revised & polished(no official word count, but I added over 100 while revising & cut around 50 while polishing) – Pretty to look at. Like she was some kind of golden statue. That was exactly what her father wanted to make her into. It didn’t matter at all what she wanted
  • Read: Writing Vivid Characters – 75% – I’m up to 77% on this.
  • Listen: Targeted(Kendra Elliot) & In His Shadow(Tiffany Snow) – finished both of these(shared my feelings on Wednesday) and also finished A Dark Mind(T.R. Ragan). Which was really disturbing, but I still really enjoyed it.
  • Read: Finish Virtually Yours, Try with Me(Elyssa Patrick), Changing His Game(Megan Erickson), Patterns in the Dark(Lindsay Buroker), The Walls Around Us(Nova Ren Suma), Once in a Lifetime(Jill Shalvis), & the Broken Hearts’ Society of Suite 17C(LeighAnn Kopans) I finished all of these. Loved Changing his Game and Patterns in the Dark. Enjoyed The Walls Around Us, though it was definitely a different read. Really enjoyed Once in a Lifetime. Just started The Broken Hearts’ Society of Suite 17C.

See? I said it was a pretty good week!

  • Write 5000 words on any of 4 projects
  • Stained by Ashes – finish beta edits
  • Healing the Heart – Polish
  • Guarding the Heart – layer in world building details
  • Defending the Heart – write Spenser’s back story, start plot summaries
  • Side projects – add 2000 words
  • Submit Midas’ Daughter
  • Read: Writing Vivid Characters – 90%
  • Read: The Broken Hearts’ Society of Suite 17C(LeighAnn Kopans), Hope Smolders(Jaci Burton), Far Too Tempting(Lauren Blakely), Daring Miss Danvers(Vivienne Lorret), Grimm Consequences(Kate Serine), Snake Heart(Lindsay Buroker), & Radio Silence(Alyssa Cole)

Sunday Summary: Cold Again

We got hit with more snow at the beginning of the week. Even though there’d been a few days before that where I didn’t even need to wear a sweatshirt outside. It had all melted by Friday night. Saturday morning we woke up to several more inches of snow. By next weekend it’s supposed to be in the 60s. I really wish the weather would decide whether it was going to be cold or warm. All this back and forth is killing me.

But aside from the weather, it’s been a pretty good week. Especially with my writing. The story I just started plotting last Friday is already up over 5000 words, and that doesn’t count any plotting words. I’m thinking this is going to be the next one that just won’t let me go. I’ve been working on it last, so I at least get something done on the other projects.

  • Work 15 hours on plotting/drafting projects – 24 hours, 15 minutes. I did well over my goal on this one. All because of that new story taking over.
    • Protecting the Heart – 1955 words
    • Ready When You Are – 2541 words
    • Paint Me a Picture – 2412 words
    • Carlos & Tereza – 4497 plotting words & 5433 words on the story itself
    • Break on Me – 2653 plotting words
    • In the Moonlight – finished brainstorming
  • Work 5 hours on editing – 30 minutes on this. Need to try to work it in more this week.
  • Come Back Down – Revise 1/2 hour – not sure of the time, but went through and filled in all the [xx].
  • Goin’ Down(short story) – Write 1/2 hour – wrote 196 words
  • RoW80 Sponsor Post – Draft, Revise, & Submit – Done!
  • Read: Conflict & Suspense(James Scott Bell) – got through 30%
  • Read: Finish Love on the Ledge(Zoraida Cordova), Kiss Kill Vanish(Jessica Martinez), The Wrath and the Dawn(Renee Ahdieh), When You Dare(Lori Foster), Coming in From the Cold(Sarina Bowen), Blood Charged(Lindsay Buroker), and Finding Center(Katherine Locke) – Finished When You Dare(liked), Coming in From the Cold(enjoyed though had some problems with it), and Blood Charged(really enjoyed). Hoping to read Finding Center today.
  • Knit: Entwined Fingerless Mitts – didn’t work on this at all
  • A-Z Challenge – Draft K, L, M, N & Revise I, J, K, L, M, N – Drafted & revised all of these. Still need to start on O.

Got a lot done this week. For next week:

  • Plot, write, edit 25 hours
  • Come Back Down – Read Through
  • Goin’ Down(short story) – write 1/2
  • Read: Conflict & Suspense – get to 55%
  • Read: It Had to be You(Jill Shalvis), The Chocolate Rose(Laura Florand), Passing on Faith(A.M. Leibowitz), King(T.M. Frazier), Any Given Christmas(Candis Terry), & Rocks and Gravel(Catie Rhodes)
  • Knit: Entwined
  • A-Z Challenge – Draft & Revise O,P,Q,R,S,T

Writing Wednesday: Starting Strong

I’m falling behind on my Camp NaNo goals, but other than that, I’m doing pretty good so far. I started plotting a new story(in my Gilbert, Co series, even though I haven’t finished Paint Me a Picture yet). I finished plotting yesterday and even wrote the first 400+ words on it. Working on it now, too. To figure out the order I work on things, I look at my list on mywriteclub.com. The one farthest along percentage-wise goes to the top of the list. This one had been there when I was plotting. But, I started a new goal for drafting, so it’s gone back to the bottom now. If things keep going the way they have been, though, it will be moving up the list.

So, for this week’s WiPPet Wednesday, I’ll be sharing from this new project. No title yet, just referring to it as ‘Carlos & Tereza’. I’m sure a title will come to me eventually. Carlos first popped up in Healing the Heart(which I should be editing), and again in Freeing His Heart and even briefly in My Way to You. And then he insisted he needed his own story. Tereza popped up in Demons Rising(book 3) and hasn’t been seen since. Didn’t realize until I started brainstorming this one how much history they shared. For today, I have 6 paragraphs from the first scene.

He jumped when the phone at the end of the counter rang and just barely kept from cutting himself with the knife. He took off the gloves he wore while preparing food and dropped them in the trash on his way to the phone. “Carlos’ place,” he answered. He’d been real creative when naming his restaurant.

“Car?” The voice on the other end of the line wavered slightly, but that didn’t keep Carlos from recognizing it. A chill went down his spine, even though he reminded himself at least this meant he was still alive.

“What do you want, Brent? I’m busy right now.”

“I-I’m sorry, Carlos.”

Shit, it had to be bad if his brother was apologizing. “What happened?”

“I’m in trouble. I need your help.”

What kind of trouble is his brother in? Is Carlos going to be able to help? I may have answers for you next week. 😉

Now, on to my progress so far this week:

  • Work 15 hours on plotting/drafting projects – I’ve lost track of all of today’s time, but I’ve got around 14 hours in. I…may have given up on the only 3 hours a day. Since I worked on outlining Carlos & Tereza’s story for 6 hours yesterday.
    • Protecting the Heart – 1020 words
    • Ready When You Are – 1034 words
    • Paint Me a Picture – 852 words
    • Carlos & Tereza – 4497 words of plotting & 1581 words on the story itself.
    • Break on Me – finished brainstorming & 1276 words of plotting
    • In the Moonlight – set aside By the Gun b/c it just wasn’t working & started brainstorming an idea based on a piece of flash fiction I wrote a while ago. Brainstormed characters, but that’s about it.
  • Work 5 hours on editing – 30 minutes so far.
  • Come Back Down – Revise 1/2 hour –
  • Goin’ Down(short story) – Write 1/2 hour
  • RoW80 Sponsor Post – Draft, Revise, & Submit – Got this drafted. Need to revise & submit still.
  • Read: Conflict & Suspense(James Scott Bell) – About 10% through this.
  • Read: Finish Love on the Ledge(Zoraida Cordova), Kiss Kill Vanish(Jessica Martinez), The Wrath and the Dawn(Renee Ahdieh), When You Dare(Lori Foster), Coming in From the Cold(Sarina Bowen), Blood Charged(Lindsay Buroker), and Finding Center(Katherine Locke) – finished Love on the Ledge(enjoyed it), set aside Kiss Kill Vanish(just wasn’t pulling me in), and finished The Wrath and the Dawn last night(really enjoyed it). Will be started When You Dare tonight.
  • Knit: Entwined Fingerless Mitts – Haven’t started these yet.
  • A-Z Challenge – Draft K, L, M, N & Revise I, J, K, L, M, N – Drafted through N. Have through J revised and scheduled. Through E are posted.

Sunday Summary: A Little Sideways

The week has gone pretty well for me for the most part. I’ve stayed about a book behind my reading goal all week. But, other than that, I’ve been doing pretty well. Didn’t quite hit any of my writing goal targets, though I did get my time in. Hopefully, not that ‘ve have the myWriteClub writing sprints(I’d already been using it to track my progress on projects…when I remember to update it), I’m hoping my words will come faster.

Yesterday, we spent a good portion of the day in Erie. Met mother-in-law at Eat n Park for breakfast. Love getting their breakfast buffet. Especially the fruit part of it. Then, we had to waste a little time. Husband was taking the boy with him to this outdoor expo thing. And the girl and I had a trip to Barnes and Noble. Neither opened until 10 and it was only 9:30. I should know better than to go into that store with a book in mind I really want to get. They almost never have it. At least this time, I had a few back-ups in mind in case they didn’t have the one I wanted. I ended up getting two books(The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie and Wild Man by Kristen Ashley) and the girl got one. Then, we headed to the café until husband and boy were done, and we met them next door at Wendy’s.

As for my week:

  • Work for 20 hours on plotting/writing/editing projects – got in roughly 20 hours(I lost track a few times, but I was at least close). And I got another 4.5 hours on editing. I finished filling in setting details, and decided to wait to do the rest of the edits until  next week.
    • Protecting the Heart – finished back stories(1317 words)
    • Ready When You Are – 2643 words
    • Love Who You Love – 3101 words
    • By the Gun – 3081 words
    • Rylan & Kirsten(tentatively titled Paint Me a Picture) – plot summary, character arc outlines, & scene list finished
    • Stained by Ashes – finished filling in setting details(added 1440 words)
  • Come Back Down – 1 hour/1000 words – probably closer to 1.5 hours/1041 words
  • Read: Description & Setting – 20% – got to this part.
  • Read: Finish Out of Bounds then read some I have from Kindle Unlimited. Once the new month starts, I’ll start on next month’s list and read: Sutphin Boulevard(Santino Hassell), See Them Run(Stacy Green), Own the Wind(Kristen Ashley), Made You Up(Francesca Zappia), Opening Act(Suleikha Snyder), Combust(Tessa Teevan) – Finished Sutphin Boulevard and really enjoyed it. Enjoyed See Them Run, too, though not as much as the first book in the series. Struggled with the first half of Own the Wind, just felt like nothing really happened. Still planning to get the next one in the series. I’m almost 70% through Made You Up and really enjoying it. Whatever I don’t finish this week will get moved to next week’s list.
  • Crochet: Leaping Stripes and Blocks Blanket – hoping to finish this week – Not quite finished with this. Have 8 rows left to do.
  • A-Z Challenge – draft posts as I have time – Have (A) done but didn’t get to any more of these this week. Maybe later today if I have time.

Other than a few of the books, it’s all green and blue. Pretty happy with that. Now for next week:

  • 20 hours on plotting/drafting projects
  • 5 hours on editing
  • Come Back Down – 1 hour/1000 words
  • Read: Description & Setting – 45%
  • Read: Finish Made You Up, Opening Act, Combust, A Dawn Most Wicked(Susan Dennard), Forever and a Day(Jill Shalvis), What You Left Behind(Jessica Verdi), The Hook-Up(Kristen Callihan), & The Scorpion Rules(Erin Bow)
  • Crochet: Leaping Stripes and Blocks Blanket – Finish
  • Knit: Mug Hug
  • A-Z Challenge – draft posts as I have time

Writing Wednesday: Off Track

Okay, so I’m not too far off track. But, the week started out that way. We went Monday afternoon to get our taxes done then to get some groceries. So, we didn’t get home until dinner time, and I only had a little more than half my list done. So, I moved the rest of the stuff to Tuesday. Then, school was cancelled yesterday so both kids were home all day. But, I did manage to catch up on most of it. Still a bit behind on my crochet and reading goals. I’m already ahead where I usually am for the day, though, so I might at least get close on catching up today.

I’ll be doing a cover reveal for Stained Snow this coming Friday. If anyone would like to help with it, let me know.

Now, for WiPPet Wednesday. Still sharing from Love Who You Love. Today I have 11 paragraphs(1+7-2-1+6). Left out the month & the 0 in the year. Anyway, context: This scene follows what I shared last week. Chris and his brother just came into the garage. Erik is still hanging out there.

“My father was being his usual asshole self.”
Chris turned and saw a young man lounging in one of the chairs by the windows. He was slouched so far down his head was right at the top of the chair. Which was why he probably hadn’t noticed him sitting there when they were coming in. It took him another moment to recognize him. “Erik?”
That had Gabriel turning as well. Chris saw his brother blink a couple times, then he said, “Damn, Morrey, you look like shit. It’s a sight for sore eyes.”
To Chris’ surprise, Erik laughed at that then levered himself up, with only a slight wince. He gripped Gabriel’s hand, not seeming to notice it was his prosthetic one. “Good to see you, too, Saranno. And it’s hard to get much sleep when you’re worried your dad’s going to throw you out any second.”
Gabriel pulled back slightly, and his eyes narrowed. “It’s gotten worse?”
“Well, since, he said all my stuff would be packed up and waiting by the time I got back to the house, I’d say that’s a given.”
“Shit, man,” Gabe said, letting his arm drop back down.
Chris looked between them, trying to figure out what was under their words. He’d never been great at subtext, though. “I don’t get it,” Chris finally said. “Why would he kick you out? You’re like a town hero.”
Erik scoffed at that. “Only in some people’s eyes. And since I refused to hide anymore, even they probably won’t look at me like that.” He ran his fingers through his short blond hair then sighed. “Knew this was coming. He walked in on me flirting with one of the other patients during my physical therapy session the other day. He’s been talking about my relapse ever since. Like it’s some disease that should have gone into remission by now.”
“I don’t get it,” Chris said. “Why would he have a problem with you flirting with a woman?”
There was a little smirk on Erik’s face as he turned to Chris. “ I never said it was a woman, did I?”

I’ll share more of this scene next week(or at least that’s the plan). And both Erik and Gabe have stories simmering in my head. As does Chris.

Now, as for how this week’s going:

  • Ready When You Are – Write 100 minutes/2000 words – 60 minutes/1355 words. I was frustrated this morning by an issue with the cover for Stained Snow and ended up writing 600 words in 20 minutes. A record for me.
  • Love Who You Love – Write 100 minutes/2000 words – 60 minutes/1129 words. The words are coming fairly steady with this one.
  • By the Gun – Write 100 minutes/2000 words – 60 minutes/1038 words. Another slow, steady progress one. But, this version is coming along a lot better than my last attempt. Even if I’ve been in disturbing characters heads the last couple days.
  • Protecting the Heart – finish Declan’s backstory, start Eva’s – still working on Declan’s back story. It’s already about 1400 words, but still have more to go. He’s got a lot to tell me apparently.
  • Rylan & Kirsten – finish Rylan’s backstory, start Kirsten’s – I finished Rylan’s yesterday(at a little over 1k). Started Kirsten’s and it’s about 300 words long so far. Hoping to finish it up today or Friday, then I can start the antagonist’s.
  • Stained Snowfinish Polishing, final read through – finished polish yesterday. Going to start the final read through later today.
  • Come Back Down – write 40 minutes/1000 words – weekend project
  • Read: She Sat He Stood – 75% – I’m at 65% right now.
  • Read: Sins of the Warrior(Linda Poitevin), Double Play(Jill Shalvis), The Darkest Flame(Christina Lee), Carry On(Rainbow Rowell), Against the Storm(Kat Martin), Craving Flight(Tamsen Parker), Brash(Nicola Marsh), & Verum(Courtney Cole) – I finished Sins of the Warrior(ripped my heart out but was a great end to the series) and Double Play(really enjoyed). I’m about 15% through The Darkest Flame now.
  • Knit: Zig Zag Ribbed Scarf – Finished this!
  • Crochet: Leaping Stripes and Blocks Blanket(finally got the yarn I need to finish this) – made some progress on this yesterday.
  • A-Z Challenge – plan through G post – Nothing on these yet. Trying to catch up on everything else first.

More red than I’d like, but hopefully will make more progress during the second half of the week.

Writing Wednesday: Staying on Track

I’m doing pretty good with staying on track with my goals. Doing 3 #Write20 sessions in the morning and using the same method for my plotting is going pretty well. I don’t always get a lot of words, but I’m making good forward progress.

Before I get to all of that, it’s Wednesday again! You all know what that means! World domination time! Oh, wait, that’s not it(and I have no idea what my thing with world domination is today). But, it is time for WiPPeT Wednesday! Even better than world domination. As promised, I’m continuing with the scene I shared last week. This week, I have 21 paragraphs(2+10+2+0+1+6) picking up at the end of the last snippet.

Erik stepped unsteadily around his father, and Kendall saw him wince as he moved forward. He must still be adjusting to the new prosthetic leg. “I know all about promises, Dad. And honor and integrity. I don’t need lessons on it from you.” He looked over at Kendall, and his lips tipped up a little. “Do you know when the car is going to be ready? Doren said you guys could modify some things so it would be easier for me to drive. It will be nice not to have to rely on family to get around.”
“Doren’s out of commission right now,” she told him, “but I can check and see how far he’s gotten on it for you.”
“Thanks, Ken.” He glanced back over his shoulder. His father had stepped back outside, and Erik seemed to relax a little. “He’s tired of having to drive me around. Sorry he’s taking it out on you.”
Kendall knew it wasn’t only that, but she wasn’t going to badmouth a father to his son. “It’s fine, Erik. Really. It’s just already been a crap day.”
“How’s Doren doing? Heard about his surgery.”
“He should be in with the doctor now for his follow-up,” she told him as she started thumbing through files, looking for the one they had on his car. “Depending on how that goes, we’ll know what the next step is.”
She pulled the file out and noticed Erik glance over his shoulder again. Why did he seem to be so nervous around his father? From what she remembered from high school, he’d been nearly a carbon copy of the older man. And not just in looks. Racist, sexist. Homophobic. She’d avoided him, particularly for that last.
“I screwed up the schedule for today,” she said, “so things have been a little crazy.”
“You screw something up? Doesn’t sound like you. Hell, even those in my class wanted your help with organizing their notes.”
She let out a short huff of breath. “I was…distracted.” She’d been thinking about Susan. Wondering how her date with Chris had gone. If she’d gone home with him.
He leaned a little closer. She wondered if his leg was bothering him, if he wanted to get off it. “You can sit. I’ll bring the file over to you.”
He shook his head. “Doc says I have to get used it.” He studied her as she flipped through the file. “When are you going to ask that girl out?”
She drew in a quick breath, looking up at him. “What…what are you talking about?”
His lips were just slightly curved up, but his eyes looked serious. “Come on, Ken. You know what, and who, I’m talking about. It’s probably the worst best kept secret in town. And I know how living in secret can destroy you.”
Her face warmed, but he just laughed then reached out to cover her hand with his. “Ask her out, Ken.”
She shook her head. “Sue’s not like that. She’s not like me. She went out with Chris Saranno Friday night.”
He shrugged a shoulder. “Doesn’t mean anything. She could be bi, or just hiding it.” The bell at the door jingled, but she couldn’t look away from Erik. There was something there, but it couldn’t be what she was thinking. “Really, you should ask her out.”
“You need to stop spreading your sickness around, boy,” Erik’s father said from the doorway. “I thought you’d gotten over that vileness.”
Erik’s face paled at his father’s words, but he turned slowly and straightened his shoulders. “Sorry, Dad. The Army didn’t drill the gay out of me like you’d hoped. And I’m tired of pretending it did for you.”
Kendall could only blink at him. Erik was gay? She’d never seen that one coming. “You made me a promise,” his father was saying. “You break it, and you won’t be welcome back in my house.”
“I haven’t been welcome in your house for a long time, Dad. I’m used to it.”

Oh, small towns, where secrets aren’t so secret. And, yes, Erik’s dad really is an asshole. I’ll have more, probably from the next scene, next week.

As for my RoW80 progress:

  • Ready When You Are – write 20 minutes a day/add 2000 words – done for 3 days. I’ve added 1500 words so far. So, on tract to meet this.
  • Love Who You Love – write 20 minutes a day/add 2000 words – done for 3 days. I’ve added 913 words on this. Not as much as I wanted, but spent most of Monday’s 20 minutes doing research on those modifications Erik needed done to the car.
  • By the Gun – write 20 minutes a day/add 2000 words – done for 3 days. I’ve added 1147 words to this one.
  • Protecting the Heart – write Declan’s back story, start Eva’s if time – I’ve written a little over half a page of Declan’s back story. I did mention in Guarding the Heart, that he’s the most talkative of the group. I can already see that playing out in this back story(in other words, it’s probably going to be long).
  • Rylan & Kirsten – write Rylan’s back story, start Kirsten’s if time – I’ve got a little over a page of Rylan’s back story written.
  • Stained by Ashes – finish CP edits – Read through for places where I need to add in setting detail. Setting it aside until I get Stained Snow polished and ready to go.
  • Stained Snow – Polish – haven’t gotten to this yet this week. I will be later today, though.
  • My Way to You – Read Through – haven’t gotten to this yet this week either. It will be set aside until I finish the two Stained books.
  • Come Back Down – write 40 minutes/add 1000 words – weekend project
  • Read: She Sat He Stood – 50% – I’m at 40%. So, on track.
  • Read: Far From You(Tess Sharpe), Wicked Ties(Shayla Black), Free Agent(Mari Carr), Love Ever After(various), At Last(Jill Shalvis), Dangerously Bound(Eden Bradley), Sins of the Warrior(Linda Poitevin), & Double Play(Jill Shalvis) – I finished Far From You(loved it), Wicked Ties(really enjoyed this one), and Free Agent(really liked it, too). I also read the Love Ever After bundle. Well, I actually only read one of them. Most were a part of series I haven’t read yet(or aren’t to the point where that one falls), and I hate reading series out of order. I’ll be starting At Last later today.
  • Read through CP’s MS(adding this one, since I didn’t get it from her until Monday night) – I’m almost halfway through this already and loving it.
  • Knit: Zig Zag Ribbed Scarf(this somehow got left off Sunday’s list) – making good progress on this. I might even have it finished this week.

Writing Wednesday: Getting Ahead

This week has been going pretty well. I got ahead on Monday and stayed caught up yesterday. I’m already most of the way through my goals for today. At the rate I’m going, I should be to my reading goal by lunchtime. If I get all my reading done for today, I can even get started on tomorrow’s goals.

Today is Wednesday, which means time to share another snippet for WiPPet Wednesday. I have 10 paragraphs(1+2+7) from Love Who You Love(Kurztown #3). This is Susan(Doren’s sister) & Kendall’s story, with some Chris thrown in(I actually thought there was going to be more of a love triangle, but that wasn’t working, so he’s stepping back. But, he’ll have his own story later).

“No,” he said, his face flaming with heat. “No, I don’t think any of that. I just know there’s always been something about you and Kendall. And the way you are with her, the way you talk about her. I just wondered if there was something there.”
“There’s nothing,” Susan said but wouldn’t meet his eyes.
“Sue,” he said softly and waited for her gaze to come back to his. Something wounded in her dark brown eyes tore at his heart. “We’ve already established we’re friends, right?” She nodded, and he added, “And that you’re practically a little sister to me.” She winced, and he let out a rough laugh. “I know we thought maybe it could be more, but that’s what it is. I’d hope Lyndsey would tell me what was going on in her life, too.”
She dropped her gaze again and twisted a ring she wore on her right middle finger. “I don’t know,” she whispered. “There’s always been…something. You’re right about that. But, she’s my best friend. I don’t know if it’s enough to ruin that.”
“Why do you think it would? Going out with me hasn’t ruined our friendship. Has it?”
She shook her head. “I hope not. But, that’s different. You’re not the same kind of friend she is. I can tell her anything. I don’t want to ruin that.”
“Have you told her you have feelings for her?”
“No. Didn’t I just say I didn’t want to ruin everything we do have?”
“I’ve seen the way she looks at you, Sue. It’s not going to ruin anything.” He squeezed her hand then stepped back. “Think about it. You shouldn’t have to keep your feelings a secret. There’s nothing wrong with them.”
He turned and walked out of the house. He would have told Lyndsey the same thing, but he had lied about one thing. It wasn’t completely brotherly affection he felt for Susan. He just wasn’t sure it was enough to put himself through being with her when she loved someone else.

I feel like I’ve been struggling with this story. But, that could be partly because I’ve only been writing about 1k a day before switching to revisions. Next month, I’m going to shift how I do things, but I’m going to keep at it for the rest of this week.

  • Love Who You Love – 33000 words – 31042/33000 words.
  • My Way to You – Pre-revision(scene map, time line, note cards) – I got the scene map & time line done.
  • Stained Snow – continue to edit as I get chapters back – 13 chapters edited. Waiting to get more back now.
  • Come Back Down – get to 18000 words – 16115/18000 words.
  • Read: Writing Vivid Settings – 100% – at about 94% through this.
  • Read: The Year We Fell Down(Sarina Bowen), Star Cruise: Marooned(Veronica Scott), Not in the Script(Amy Finnegan), & A Home By the Sea(Christina Skye), Rev It Up(Julie Ann Walker), Last Will & Testament(Dahlia Adler), Roses are Red, Violet is Dead(Monica-Marie Vincent), The Things You Kiss Goodbye(Leslie Connor), Of Metal and Wishes(Sarah Fine), Red(Kate Serine), Warrior Mage(Lindsay Buroker), and First Time in Forever(Sarah Morgan) – Enjoyed all the ones I’ve finished so far this week. I’m about 69% through A Home by the Sea. I may not get to the rest of these, but it’s what’s left on my list for the month.
  • Loom: Zig Zag Hat – Finished this yesterday. wp-1453911831298.jpg

Hoping this week continues to go well. On Sunday, I’ll have my monthly wrap-up and my plan for next month.
