Kyran crouched down behind the barrel, watching the people combing the street in front of them. “We have five people trying to kill us right now, what are we supposed to do?”
Arwyn ticked each person off his finger. “Actually, it’s more like eight.
“Oh, sorry I wasn’t specific enough!”
Arwyn bit back a chuckle. The man was so cute when he got angry. Especially when that was directed at Arwyn. It must be why he needled him so often. “At least half of them don’t even know what they’re doing. We just have to wait them out, then we can get out of here.”
“And what about the other half?”
“Between the two of us, I’m sure we can take them on. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.”
Back to my Pirates story for this week’s Fiction Friday. Not quite sure how they get to this point or where it will go from here.
“So… what’s he like?” Tarian asked.
Kyran speared his fingers through his hair then dropped his hand to the table. “He’s cocky, controlling, too smooth for his own good and has better hair than I do.”
She laughed. “Sounds like you like him.”
“Hah, he likes himself too much for that, trust me.”
“Riiiight.” Tarian grinned at him. “Keep telling yourself that, Ky.”
He slumped back in the chair. “What is wrong with me? I’m friends with you even though your father managed to steal my kingdom away from me. And here I am, falling for a pirate captain who is the worst person for me if I have any hopes of changing my fortune.”
Tarian shook her head. “First of all, us being friends makes perfect sense. Since my father tried to have me killed. And if there hadn’t been so much fanfare when I returned my brother’s body, he probably would have tried again then. And sometimes the person who appears the worst for you is actually the best.”
From the smile on her face, he was sure she was thinking about her wife again. The queen. He still couldn’t believe that. He could only wish he could find what she apparently had. But, that’s all that was. Wishful thinking.
Today’s Fiction Friday is brought to you by Pirates and my Snow White retelling. I didn’t realize they’d take place in the same world until I started writing this.
“You make a pretty terrible captain.”
“At least I have a ship. You’re a prince and haven’t got a square foot of land to rule.”
Prince Kyran turned toward the captain, eyes narrowing on him. “You said you didn’t know who I was.”
“I actually never said that,” Arwyn said, leaning against the rail. “I simply didn’t greet you as Your Highness, seeing as you no longer have a throne. What would be the point?”
“Yes, thank you so much for pointing that out once again. It was stolen from me. I have plans to get it back.”
Arwyn snorted. “Plans. Right. Let me know when those work out for you.” And with that, he strode away from Kyran.
Kyran stared after him. He wanted to follow, so they could argue this out some more. But, really, what would be the point of that? The pirate captain was right. He was a ruler with nothing left to rule. And he still wasn’t sure how to make that change.
I have plans in my head for this story, even though I didn’t name these characters until this morning. So, this just has me more excited to start plotting out the story.
