Writing Wednesday: Getting Hot

Last week, when we had the broken dryer, it was windy, a little cool, and sometimes rainy. This week so far it feels more like the end of May than middle of April. In fact, I managed to get a little sun burn on Monday just from sitting out on the porch reading while the kids played. Tuesday I put up the porch umbrella when I couldn’t take the direct sunlight anymore.

Keeping me company outside while I wrote and the kids played.

Yesterday was the last day of the kids’ week-long break from school. I managed to write two scenes in Playing with Fire before they got up. Normally I would have kept going, but the scenes coming up will be a bit steamy, and my 9 year-old likes to sit there and read while I write(particularly with it being plugged into the tv until we replace the desk chair). So I decided to set that aside at least until they went to bed last night. Then I could play catch-up. I did get one more scene written last night, I’ll catch up on the other’s today.

Speaking of Playing with Fire, it’s WiPPet Time again!! I’ve shared snippets from Corrin’s POV & Silas’. So, I guess now it’s time to get something from Jeremiah’s. For today, I have 33 sentences(4+19+2+0+1+7). Jeremiah is trying to take some college classes around working at the fire department. But, he’s not finding it so easy to balance the two.

Jeremiah stepped into the apartment but stopped when he heard Corrin’s laugh ring out from the kitchen. He’d loved that sound from the first time he’d heard it. But, it had been elusive lately. He wondered how Silas had managed to bring it out. He’d barely spoken to Silas since their kiss the other day. His words had kept ringing in his head, though. Was he right? Did Corrin really think she didn’t deserve him?
That was just ridiculous.
He shut the door behind him and pulled off his boots before walking toward the kitchen. Exhaustion filled every cell of his body. He wanted to hit his bed, but it would have to be coffee for now. He had a class he couldn’t miss in two hours. Most of his professors understood if he missed a class because he had a shift at the station, but there was always one. And this semester that one was definitely Dr. Egleston.
“You are absolutely awful, Silas,” Corrin was saying as Jeremiah stepped into the kitchen, but she was still smiling. Something twisted in him that Silas was the one she was smiling at like that. He wasn’t sure which of them he was more jealous of.
“I try to do my part,” Silas said, grinning back at her. Then, he glanced over at Jeremiah, and his smile softened. “You look like shit. Hard shift?”
Jeremiah nodded. He wasn’t ready to talk about it, though. “I need to shower, change, and get to class. Is there still any coffee?”
“It’s just about out,” Silas said. “I’ll get some more started while you get a shower.”
“Thanks. I won’t be long.” He wanted to say more, do more, but Silas was already turning toward the coffeemaker. It was for the best anyway.
He had to stop wanting more than he could have.

But, is it, Jeremiah? Or can you have everything you want? 😉

Stream of Consciousness Saturday: “Hair”

“Your boys are here.”

Corrin glanced over at her cousin, Gio, also her boss. His light red hair was pulled back from his face, and his blue eyes twinkled as he grinned at her. Then, she looked in the way he gestured. And saw Jeremiah and Silas sitting at one of the tables. She looked back at her cousin then. “You don’t seem to have a problem with our arrangement,” she said. “You don’t think it’s wrong?”

One corner of his mouth lifted a little higher. “Do you really think I, of all people, would judge?”

“My dad does,” she said softly. It still hurt that her dad couldn’t accept that she was happy.

Gio gave her shoulders a quick squeeze. “He’ll come around. Even Cormac has started to with me and Cam. And you know how easy it is to bring Cormac around to anything not originally his idea.”

Corrin laughed at that. He did have a point. She just wasn’t sure if it was true.

“Go see your boys,” he said, squeezing her shoulders once more before heading back behind the bar.

Corrin headed toward the table and caught Silas’ eye first. His smile spread and he shoved some of his dark hair back from his face. Jeremiah looked over his shoulder, and his grin joined Silas’. “What can I do for you boys?” she asked, trying to smother her own grin.

“Well, now,” Silas said, I could tell you, but I doubt your cousin would like any of those suggestions. Ow!” He reached under the table, likely to rub the leg Jeremiah must have kicked. “I was just teasing.”

Corrin couldn’t help but laugh. “What can I get you to eat or drink?” she rephrased her question.

Silas still waggled his eye brows at her, and she laughed again, but he behaved this time as they orders drinks and dinner. As she turned to leave, she saw Silas lean across the table and kiss Jeremiah. There was no jealousy when she saw the two of them together. Just an eagerness to be able to join them. A couple more hours of work, and she’d be able to do just that.

This week’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt was “hair”. I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to work that in. But, I decided to visit with Corrin and company from Playing with Fire. This will come after the actual story.

Just Jot It January: Day 29 – “History”

“The two of you have so much history together. I don’t want to come between any of that.”

Jeremiah reached out and cupped Corrin’s cheek. “You aren’t coming between anything. We both want you here.”

She wasn’t convinced. “I’ve seen the way you two are together. And I love being a part of it. But, I don’t-”

He stepped even closer to her. “You do,” he said softly. “You keep thinking about our past, but that’s not what’s important to any of us. Our future is. We want that to include you being with us. Why can’t you see that?”

Because it had been too much to hope for. But, she thought just maybe she could start doing that.

Today is Day 29 of Just Jot It January, and the prompt was “History”. This will probably come near the end of Playing with Fire. I won’t know exactly how that goes until I start writing. Even with all the plotting I do, the characters tend to have a mind of their own and don’t always go along with what I plan.

SOCS/Just Jot It: Day 28 – “Wood/Would”

Would you come over here?”

Corrin looked over at Jeremiah. “What?”

“Just come here.”

She stood up and moved over toward him. When she reached him, he pulled her right up against him. “I thought we were taking a vacation,” he said. “And yet, you’re still up early working. Silas claims you have a dictionary in your head. Doesn’t it have the definition of vacation?”

She laughed and smacked lightly at his shoulder. “I just wanted to get a little work done. You and Silas were still sleeping when I came out here.” She glanced around. “Where is Silas? Still sleeping?”

Jeremiah shook his head. “He’s outside.” He pressed his mouth to hers, his hands sliding up her back. Neither moved even when the door swung open.

“if you two want to stop making out, I could use some help with this wood so we can get a fire started.”

They’d been together for several months, so Silas’ teasing shouldn’t still make her blush. But, she moved away to save what she’d been working on as Jeremiah moved toward the door. He paused by Silas for a moment, their mouths meeting for a brief kiss, before Jeremiah shrugged on his coat and went out to haul in the rest of the wood.

Silas looked over at her and smiled. She knew people, particularly her family, didn’t understand how they could work together. But, they just did. And she was very happy for that.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday and Day 28 of Just Jot It January. Today’s prompt was to use wood/would, one or both, in any way we want. This would take place after the end of Playing with Fire. Just a little look into where they might go after the “happy ever after”.
Just Jot It January: Day 26 – “Extraordinary”
“That was extraordinary,” Corrin said, licking some of the sauce from her finger.
Jeremiah groaned at her side, and she turned to look at him. his gaze was riveted on her mouth, and she licked her finger again. His gaze finally moved back up to her eyes. And even though they’d just eaten, she saw hunger there.
And it kindled heat inside her.
Jeremiah kissed her shoulder, still bare from earlier. She set the plate they’d been sharing aside then tugged on his arm. He sprawled over her, and she wrapped her arms and legs around him. She thought this might be even more extraordinary than the food Silas had left for them in the fridge before heading out to the lab.
Today is Day 26 of Just Jot It January and the prompt is “extraordinary”. Did it get a little warm in here? 😀 This one was short, but I’m pretty sure you can tell where it’s heading.
Just Jot It January: Day 24 – “Elusive”
Jeremiah stepped into the apartment but stopped when he heard Corrin’s laugh ring out from the kitchen. He’d loved that sound from the first time he’d heard it. But, it had been elusive lately. He wondered how Silas had managed to bring it out.
He shut the door behind him and pulled off his boots before walking toward the kitchen. Exhaustion filled every cell of his body. He wanted to hit his bed, but it would have to be coffee for now. He had a class he couldn’t miss in two hours. Most of his professors understood if he missed a class because he had a shift at the station, but there was always one.
“You are absolutely awful, Silas,” Corrin was saying as Jeremiah stepped into the kitchen, but she was still smiling.
“I try to do my part,” he said, grinning back at her. Then, he glanced over at Jeremiah, and his smile softened. “You look like shit. Hard shift?”
Jeremiah nodded. He wasn’t ready to talk about it, though. “I need to shower, change, and get to class. Is there still any coffee?”
“It’s just about out,” Silas said. “I’ll get some more started while you get a shower.”
“Thanks. I won’t be long.”
“He needs a nap more than coffee,” Corrin muttered.
He smiled a little as he closed his bedroom door to shed his uniform. He did need a nap, but it would have to wait a little longer.
Today is day 24 of Just Jot It January and the prompt was “elusive”. This one, I think, takes place earlier than the last few I’ve been sharing. I’m going to have to go through and figure out where each will fall.
Just Jot It January: Day 20 – “Transcendent”
“That was a transcendent experience,” Corrin said with a sigh.
She felt one body hit the other end of the couch. Then, a pillow smacked her in the face. “Turn off the internal dictionary already,” Silas said.
From the other end of the couch, Jeremiah said, “Bet you’ve never had a woman tell you that, Silas.”
Another pillow went flying, this one hitting Jeremiah on the side of the head. He laughed even harder. It always amazed her how easy and even playful these two were with each other. She’d gotten along with her roommate when she’d still lived on campus, but it was more of a tolerating and not an actual liking.
“At least he’s good with his hands,” Corrin said, still feeling good from the foot rub Silas had given her when she’d gotten home from work.
Jeremiah snorted again. “Again,” he started, but Silas picked up the pillow on Corrin’s face and threw it at him, too. Jeremiah fell off the arm of the couch but didn’t stop laughing. She knew Silas wasn’t really upset. This was the way they always were with each other. And when Jeremiah came back up off the floor, Silas was grinning back at him.
Yeah, sometimes she was downright jealous of what she saw between the two of them.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Today is Day 20 of Just Jot It January, and the prompt was “Transcendent”. I had initially thought this might go another direction then the boys started joking around in my head. And this is what came out. Silas is gay(though he may realize it’s more fluid than that), Jeremiah’s bisexual. The two have been friends for nearly a decade.
