Trip to the Pumpkin Farm

I wrote a little about this yesterday in my Sunday ROW80 Check-in post and even shared a couple of the pictures. But, I thought I’d do a bigger post on it today. As I said, we went to a local pumpkin farm on Saturday: my mother-in-law, the kids, me and my husband met us there since he’d had to work in the morning. When we first got there, I thought we’d still be waiting in line when my husband showed up as it was pretty long. But, it moved pretty quick, so we didn’t wait more than 10 minutes, probably less than that. The first thing my daughter said when we walked through the pumpkins was, “there’s a pink pumpkin.”

We walked through the pumpkins then went up to the big corn box while we waited for my husband to get there.

The kids ended up bringing some corn with them… in their pockets and in their socks.

After my husband got there, we walked around for a bit. 20131012_115852

Then, they wanted to go down the big hill slides. And go down again. And again. And again.

Then, we walked around some more. The girl got to lead the boy around:

and ride a couple “horses”:

The girl got to milk a cow(kind of):

They rode tricycles around a track:

And they even got to dig in the dirt:

It was a really warm day for the middle of October, which you can’t really tell by my kids’ choice of clothing. Told them they didn’t need the long-sleeves, but they didn’t want to change, so I let it go. And didn’t realize until we got there that the boy didn’t have a shirt on under his sweatshirt. The warm weather also brought out a whole lot of people, including one of my old friends. I don’t think I’ve really seen her since she graduated high school, a year behind me, so it’s been almost ten years. She was there with her whole family and my cousin(who is best friend’s with my friend’s older sister). One of my other cousins was there as well with her husband and little girl. It was a really good day for it.

Sunday Summary: Summer or Fall?

I know it’s the middle of October, so technically it is Fall. It just hasn’t been feeling like it for the last week. Sure, it’s been cool at night and early in the morning. Not so much we need to turn the heat on yet. Just throwing on a sweatshirt is good. But, it’s been getting into the higher 70s by noon. We went to a local pumpkin farm yesterday, and it was really warm. Doesn’t feel quite like Fall right now. Next week, it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to get over 70. Maybe it will start to feel more like Fall then. And yes, my kids were wearing long sleeves on a very warm day. Because I let them dress themselves. And I didn’t realize the boy hadn’t put a t-shirt on under his sweatshirt.

  • The Choice: Finish 5 scenes: I finished this just yesterday morning. Wrote 3329 words this week. These scenes seem to be coming out shorter than what I usually write.

  • Chasing the Ghost: Have most of novel notebook complete: About halfway through this. Will probably be able to finish it this week.
  • Read: Never Too Much(Lori Foster) & Simply Irresistible(Jill Shalvis): Finished both of these. Never Too Much was okay. Simply Irresistible was really good. I finished it in one day. I picked up two other books and set them aside again because I just didn’t get into them mostly. Reading another of the Lori Foster ones I picked up at the library book sale the other week now.
  • Knit: Boo Baby Cloth: Got this started, but didn’t make a lot of progress on it. Hoping to give it more time this week.

20131012_143258Progress for this first week of the round wasn’t too bad. I didn’t get everything done, but I was able to cross a couple things off my lists. And that’s always good. New goals for next week:

  • Stained Snow: Search & Destroy. I’ve already started this and am about halfway through my list of words to search for.
  • The Choice: Write last 2 scenes
  • Chasing the Ghost: Finish Novel Notebook
  • Read: Tempted(Lori Foster) & Treasure Me(Christine Nolfi)
  • Knit: Boo Baby Cloth

Sunday Summary: Wrapping Up Summer

Wednesday I was writing about our heat wave. And today it definitely feels more like fall. I was really looking forward to these cooler temperatures, until I had to stand outside in them for 12 hours yesterday. I knew I was going to be working the pit gate at the racetrack last night. But, it wasn’t until Friday night at almost nine o’clock, I found out I needed to be there at 10:45, usually I don’t have to be there until 12:45. But races got rained out Thursday and Friday, so they had to run those ones yesterday before they could get to yesterday’s scheduled races. So, they had to start earlier. And I ended up working the back gate(where the trucks drive through) instead of the side gate(where everyone walks through to the pits). I can usually close and lock the side gate after 8 when they stop selling the pit passes and then eat and head out to the car to wait for my husband(since he works down on the track). But, we have to keep the back gate open with someone there until after the last race is over. I clocked out at 11:01. It was a very long day, and cold once the sun started to go down. But, I did get over 300 words written for my WiP on a couple of napkins. One of those napkins was for the next scene in it. The other was a couple lines of dialogue that just popped into my head while I was sitting there. There’s only 1 more weekend of racing, and I’m not even sure if I’m working. Still, I am glad it’s cooling off. I enjoy being able to wear sweatshirts around the house. As long as we don’t have to turn on our heat for a couple more months.

I made pretty good progress this week.

  • The Choice: Write 15,000 words. – 15700/15000 My numbers ranged from 856 words(yesterday) to 3873(Tuesday) for the week. It was a really good week.
  • Slow Revenge: Edit through Chapter 9 – Done
  • Chasing the Ghost: Chapter Summaries through Chapter 18 – Done
  • Read: Never Seduce a Scot(Maya Banks) and Insurgent(Veronica Roth) – Done and Done. Both were great reads. Excited for Allegiant to come out(a little over a month).
  • Story Physics: Read through Chapter 20 – Done
  • Knitting: Soft Ribs Sweater – Finish – Essentially done. I have everything except for the buttons sewn on. I’d do that except the buttons I got are two small for the button loops. So, I’m going to have to get some new ones before I can completely finish it. Still, I’ll move on to the next projects until I get some other buttons.

I actually met all my goals for the week. Since the round ends on Thursday, this week’s goal will just cover the first half of the week.

  • The Choice: Write 10,500 words(3500/day)
  • Slow Revenge: Edit through Chapter 12
  • Chasing the Ghost: Get through character arc in blueprint
  • Read: Fine Laid Bare(Lauren Dane) and read The Look of Love(Bella Andre)
  • Story Physics: Finish reading
  • Crochet: Simple Earflap Hat
