Fitness Friday: Off Track

I haven’t completely fallen off track on my fitness stuff. I’ve still been doing the 30 day ab challenge. I’m on day 23 now. I should be through the challenge by the time the kids go back to school. Though I’ve found I can’t hold the plank position as I go. I can hold it for about up to a minute.

Snacking not going quite as well. Daughter’s birthday party was last weekend. We have leftover cake, ice cream, & potato chips(I might be snacking on salt & vinegar chips right now).

Trying to keep up with my water consumption, but haven’t been doing too well with that either. I try to keep 3 different water bottles filled and at hand. The first is easy, the latter is where I often fail.

I haven’t weighed myself since my last post.

7/17: 174

8/14: 177

Yuck. Now, it’s the time of the month where I tend to bloat up. So, I’m trying to keep that in mind. Still, seeing that number wasn’t fun. Definitely since that’s the highest I’ve weighed in at since the end of May. Hopefully over the next weeks I can get things back on track.

Sunday Summary: WeWriWa – “Just a Boy”

Time for another installment of Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop for everyone who likes to write. I am, once again, writing this up on Friday. But, as I’ve finished everything for the week, this counts as my weekend, right? Anyway, I have 10 sentences following shortly after last week’s snippet. The three men are talking away from Trace, but he can still hear them.

”Think he’s trouble, Cap’n. Or it could follow him.”
“He’s just a boy.” Icarus’ voice, still soft, but with steel behind it. “And there’s something ’bout him.”
That had my stomach twisting in knots. Did he see it too?
“Looks like he could use a few good nights sleep,” a rumbling voice said. “And extra meals.”
“God, he reminds me of someone.”

So, who does Trace remind Icarus of? Is he going to bring trouble? Just what are they planning? Come back next week, and you might find out. 😉

We had my daughter’s 8th birthday party yesterday. 8, really? How did that happen?(Yes, I know how it actually happened, but still…) It went well, and she got some new toys, clothes, and books(and notebooks and pencils, of course).

Today, Daddy is taking her out for breakfast and possibly bringing pizza home for dinner tomorrow night for her actual birthday. And then, 3 1/2 weeks until the boy’s birthday.

Since I’m starting to write this on Friday, it’s probably obvious how this week has gone. 😀 I really thought it would take longer to do revisions on Demons Rising. I didn’t rewrite as much as I thought I’d have to. I still may end up rewriting those scenes, for now I reworked a few things. And I threw one scene out entirely(well moved to a ‘cut scenes’ folder in my scrivener folder in case I want to put it back in).

  • Demons Rising: Round 1 Revisions – DONE!! Added over 7800 words to this. Now, sitting at just under 95k. That’s long for one of mine, usually they’re between 80-85k or even under that.
  • Into the Sun: Try to finish Edited: forgot about this – have added 1525 words this weekend. Getting close to the finish & having ideas for more stories with these characters.
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, and Conflict(Debra Dixon) – 25% – got this done
  • Read: Scratch(Rhonda Helms), Pivot Point(Kasie West), & Love the Way You Lie(Skye Warren) – I had these done by Wednesday’s check-in. Have also read Curious(R.G. Alexander) – really enjoyed- and finished No Limits(Lori Foster) yesterday. Liked it. Although there are tie-ins to a series I haven’t read yet(have it on my list now, though). Also finished listening to Hidden(Kendra Elliot) and really liked it. Apparently I should have listened to these before the Callahan & McLane series, since they happened before and we see some of the same characters. But…*shrug*
  • Knit: Hive Dishcloth – Finished this on Friday.IMG_0774

For next week:

  • Demons Rising: Read Through on my Kindle
  • Guarding the Heart: Work through Chapter 17(this will be early morning project)
  • Into the Sun: finish 1st draft
  • Read: GMC: Goal, Motivation, Conflict – 50%
  • Read: Debt Collector: Season 1(Susan Kaye Quinn), Murder by the Seaside(Julie Anne Lindsey), & Everly After(Rebecca Paula)
  • Crochet: Spring Training Cap

Family Friday: Birthday & Check-Ups

Nathan’s 2nd birthday was this past Monday. We celebrated it a few times over the weekend. On Saturday, we had a party with my side of the family down at a campground where my mom and stepdad were camping.

Then, on Monday we had a little celebration with just us.

And today, both kids had their check-ups. Nathan weighs 27.5 lbs, which is about the 42nd percentile, although he was moving around on the scale, so it might be a little off. And he is almost 35 inches, about 63rd percentile, and his head is 50.5 centimeters(not sure why that’s the only one they don’t give in inches), which is about 90th percentile. So, he’s skinny, tallish with a big head. 🙂 The doctor asked about his speech, and I told her some of the words he’s saying, mostly “du tru” and “tra” and “oh no”. And of course “muk”, his favorite drink. She said we could get him evaluated if I was concerned that he’s not talking enough, but really I’m not. He’s so much more verbal than my daughter was at 2, and he talks all the time, we just can’t always understand a lot of it. She only said maybe half a dozen words at 2, and he is saying more than that now. If he’s still not saying much more in another 6 months or so, I may be more concerned. But, for now, it’s good. He didn’t have to get any shots today, just the nasal flu vaccine.

Hayleigh weighs 37 lbs, 3.2 oz, which is 33rd percentile for her age and is 41 inches, which is 23rd percentile. So she is short and skinny. 🙂 She had her hearing and vision checked and hearing was good and eyesight is 20/40. The doctor said that’s not really unusual for her age, but is borderline, so we could get it checked if we wanted. Since she takes after me in just about every other way, I don’t doubt she’ll need to get glasses at some point too. So, if I ever go in to get mine checked and new glasses(I’ve had these ones 3 years and are so scratched up I can barely see out of them), I’ll probably have hers checked too. She also got three shots, since she wasn’t able to get them at her 4 yr old appt which was 5 days before her birthday, and the nasal flu vaccine. She never even cried, so the nurse told her she could take 2 stickers when we left.

Family Friday: 5th Birthday Party

“I love them” She said before opening any of them.

Hayleigh opened her gifts from us Saturday morning. And of course, her favorite was the cheapest one. A counting piggy bank that I got from one of the local Amish bent & dent stores for $2.50.

A set of books for her Tag Reader

I baked her birthday cake Saturday night. We got a Mickey Mouse cake pan from Cory’s aunt and were going to make some changes to it once baked to make it into a Minnie cake. Well, I forgot to spray the pan before putting the batter in it. And so, when it was done baking, it would not come out of the pan. We finally did get it out and it completely fell apart. Needless to say, I had a bit of a meltdown. We had also made cupcakes, but only 22 so I didn’t think that would be enough for everyone(it may have been close though).

So, Cory went off to Country Fair at 5:15 Sunday morning to get more cake mix, so she could still have a cake. I had no idea how we were going to have time to get everything done before the party though. But, the cupcakes frosted while he was at the store. Got it all mixed up and poured into two round pans this time. And guess what I did? yep, forgot to spray the pans. Thankfully, the cakes still came right out of them, only leaving a little of the top layer of cake in the pan. I frosted one pink with white polka dots. The other one Cory decorated to look like Minnie and we used two cupcakes for the ears. Can’t believe it, but I forgot to take pictures of the cakes before we were ready to eat them. And I finished doing the dishes and getting everything set out, just as people started to arrive.

Ready to blow out her candles on her pink cake.

The Minnie cake – not even touched at the party

Out of the four friends that we invited, only two responded that they were coming. And out of those two, only one of them showed up. But, she still had a good time. So, really that’s all that matters. Not my high stress level, or how the cake turned out, or even how clean the house was.

Family Friday: Five Years Old

My baby girl is five years old today.

1 day old and already a daddy’s girl.

5 years later.

I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by. She’ll be starting her second year of k-4 in less than 3 weeks. In two days, she’ll be having her first ever “friend birthday.” Well, we invited four of her friends to the regular party, so it won’t just be her friends. And as of right now, only one of them is coming that I know of.

She woke up this morning, just before six, and came running out. “Today is my birthday.” Then, “But, I didn’t get taller.” Yesterday she said she was going to grow more on her birthday. So, I guess she was disappointed when that didn’t happen.

We’re having a low key day today. Tomorrow we’re probably having doughnuts in the morning and she’ll open her presents from us(unless her dad is home from work today before he has to go cook for Bingo at the fire hall tonight). And doing some baking for the party.

On Wednesday, my mom called and asked if we wanted to go to one of the local fairs. We had to wait for Hayleigh to get back from “little school”, the summer program she is in two days a week, once a month. So, we went and Hayleigh had a great time. And I had a good time seeing her have so much fun. Nathan wasn’t quite as impressed, but he also only had a short nap in the morning, and this was during his normal nap time. So, I’m sure that didn’t help.

She was actually laughing during this one.

On the merry go round

This was just before he started crying. Guess he wasn’t so sure Mommy wouldn’t let him fall.

We were waiting in line for the fun slide(the big one you slide down on a sack). Hayleigh was really looking forward to go down the “big slide”, but a storm was coming in, so they shut down the rides until it passed. By that time, we were ready to leave. But, we soothed the disappointment with an ice cream cone.
