Home of a mother, wife, writer

It’s the beginning of a new month, and I have a new plan going forward. I talked a little about it on Sunday but not too much. Basically, I have too many characters in my head all clamoring to have their stories told. I’ve been trying to take them on one at a time. But, I just…can’t. My mind doesn’t seem to work that way. it does a lot of bouncing around. And as counter-intuitive as it seems, I feel more focused when I’m working on more than one thing. I never said that I make any sense. 😉

This morning started with plotting. I spent 10 minutes on each of 5 projects(1 from each of my series & 1 standalone). I met this week’s goal on 3/5 of them. During the next two hour block, I’ll be focused on writing. I also have blocks focused on editing and side projects. We’ll see how this goes, and I may adjust if it doesn’t work.

I barely have anything for the other projects for this month, so I’m sharing from Nowhere to Run. James is getting a little better about his overprotective urges, though some of it is still coming through. I have 9 paragraphs today(8+1).

“I still worry about you. Is that so bad?”
He glanced back in time to see her face soften. “No, James,” she said. “It isn’t bad. Worrying seems to come natural to you. It must be that do-gooder gene.”
He laughed. At least her teasing about this pulled him out of his head. “I was never great at science, but even I know that isn’t actually a thing. And I’m not that good.”
“Just keep telling yourself that, even as you help old ladies cross the street and rescue kittens from trees.”
He shook his head, biting back his laughter. It wasn’t like he’d ever really done either of those things. He poured a cup of coffee and took the first sip, sighing. He looked up again to see her grinning at him. “Hits the spot, does it?”
“Yes, seriously you should just live here forever and make me coffee.”
She slid off the couch and started over to him. His pulse pounded harder as she approached. “Is that all I’m good for?”
The words hit him hard, and he set the cup on the counter. “No, of course not. I was just joking. I didn’t mean…” He trailed off when she started laughing.
“I know, James,” she said, taking a few steps closer to him. “I know you didn’t mean that. I was just teasing you back.”

  1. Heh, I really like their banter here.

And I love the way you make your chaos seem so tidy! I may have to try this approach. I can’t focus on one thing either, but I’ve never tried organizing my multiple projects like this. Hmm…

    • Thanks

I’ve done it this way before, then I start thinking it would be better for me to work on one thing at a time(as much as I ever do). That usually only ends up working for a few months before I’m back to doing it this way.

  2. Holy wow! That’s a LOT of plans. But…it looks like you also checked a lot off. Way to go!!! 😀

  3. I need to take a note from you and be a bit more organized about things.

As for the WIPpet – we’re always somewhat overprotective of those we care about.

    • I may be a bit too organized at times, but if I’m not, my mind’s just a bunch of chaos. So, it’s the only way I really get anything done.
Oh yeah, and James can go a little overboard on that at times, but it’s always with the best intentions. 🙂

Aww, this is sweet. It does seem like he is a natural worrier. I can relate.
