Home of a mother, wife, writer

Last week, when we had the broken dryer, it was windy, a little cool, and sometimes rainy. This week so far it feels more like the end of May than middle of April. In fact, I managed to get a little sun burn on Monday just from sitting out on the porch reading while the kids played. Tuesday I put up the porch umbrella when I couldn’t take the direct sunlight anymore.

Keeping me company outside while I wrote and the kids played.

Yesterday was the last day of the kids’ week-long break from school. I managed to write two scenes in Playing with Fire before they got up. Normally I would have kept going, but the scenes coming up will be a bit steamy, and my 9 year-old likes to sit there and read while I write(particularly with it being plugged into the tv until we replace the desk chair). So I decided to set that aside at least until they went to bed last night. Then I could play catch-up. I did get one more scene written last night, I’ll catch up on the other’s today.

Speaking of Playing with Fire, it’s WiPPet Time again!! I’ve shared snippets from Corrin’s POV & Silas’. So, I guess now it’s time to get something from Jeremiah’s. For today, I have 33 sentences(4+19+2+0+1+7). Jeremiah is trying to take some college classes around working at the fire department. But, he’s not finding it so easy to balance the two.

Jeremiah stepped into the apartment but stopped when he heard Corrin’s laugh ring out from the kitchen. He’d loved that sound from the first time he’d heard it. But, it had been elusive lately. He wondered how Silas had managed to bring it out. He’d barely spoken to Silas since their kiss the other day. His words had kept ringing in his head, though. Was he right? Did Corrin really think she didn’t deserve him?
That was just ridiculous.
He shut the door behind him and pulled off his boots before walking toward the kitchen. Exhaustion filled every cell of his body. He wanted to hit his bed, but it would have to be coffee for now. He had a class he couldn’t miss in two hours. Most of his professors understood if he missed a class because he had a shift at the station, but there was always one. And this semester that one was definitely Dr. Egleston.
“You are absolutely awful, Silas,” Corrin was saying as Jeremiah stepped into the kitchen, but she was still smiling. Something twisted in him that Silas was the one she was smiling at like that. He wasn’t sure which of them he was more jealous of.
“I try to do my part,” Silas said, grinning back at her. Then, he glanced over at Jeremiah, and his smile softened. “You look like shit. Hard shift?”
Jeremiah nodded. He wasn’t ready to talk about it, though. “I need to shower, change, and get to class. Is there still any coffee?”
“It’s just about out,” Silas said. “I’ll get some more started while you get a shower.”
“Thanks. I won’t be long.” He wanted to say more, do more, but Silas was already turning toward the coffeemaker. It was for the best anyway.
He had to stop wanting more than he could have.

But, is it, Jeremiah? Or can you have everything you want? 😉

Comments on: "Writing Wednesday: Getting Hot" (17)

  1. Ooh, the plot thickens and the tension grows. I’m really keen to see how these guys figure themselves out.

  2. Ooh, I’m quite intrigued by these three!

  3. I take it from your hit that there is a possibility that Jeremiah can have it all, only if he will admit to himself that he actually needs that as much as he does.

Like the Dougal and Shae quote too. 😀

    • A very good possibility. 😉
Thanks. Older brothers can be sweet in their own ways(well, I imagine. I only have older sisters).

      • Can’t say… I’m the oldest, and I only have one brother. In fact, I’m the oldest, of the oldest, of the oldest , married to the oldest…. I have to ask Shan about being the younger sibling things.

  4. I’m rooting for Jeremiah. Because rooting for Jeremiah is in my job description, but also because I just plain like the guy! And I think he can have everything (one?) he wants…and so can Corrin and Silas! =D

Great progress, as usual. It was cold here today, and got colder and wetter as the day went on. I was glad to have my outside stuff out of the way early, and then our new phones came, and there was a lot of learning how to use them, adding apps, and the like…

It’s supposed to be warmer and maybe a bit sunnier tomorrow, but then wet through the weekend, I think (if I can believe the weather app on my new phone!). So a good few days for writing, with an event or two in the mix.

I hope you had the chance to get those steamy scenes written!

    • Jeremiah’s a good guy to root for. he really is a sweetheart. It’s just taking some time for him to accept that even though society might look at them strange for what’s between them doesn’t necessarily mean it’s wrong. 😉
It rained most of the day yesterday and was definitely cooler. It’s supposed to be cooler and cloudy through the weekend too.
I did get the steamy scenes done as well as some more this morning. It’s a good thing they’ve got a firefighter on hand with all these sparks igniting. 😉

  5. It’s been getting much warmer here in Virginia, too. Today I wore a light jacket while puppy Leo and I were out walking and I found I didn’t even need that. With a young and active dog and a small yard that isn’t fenced in, I spend a lot of time in the park, so I’m enjoying the warmer weather. I’m ready for summer!

    • It’s been cloudy and raining the rest of this week. I’m not all too fond of the summer, really. I don’t handle the heat very well.

  6. I love 100% of everything about this, and I cannot wait to read their whole story. I have a feeling Jeremiah isn’t the only one who thinks he can’t have it all. But I’ve also got a feeling they’ll all be able to have everything they want.

  7. I love this! I used to work in a sixth-form college, and so many of my students were racing around like Jeremiah, trying to study on top of really tough jobs, and a few of the tutors were terribly unsympathetic. Anyway, I like your hint at the end. I’m excited to read this when it’s published. 🙂

  8. It was warm Friday and Saturday, and then Sunday the temps dipped down again. I really wish the weather would make up its mind.

That was a great snippet. I do think that Jeremiah could have his cake and then some if he just would admit what he wanted.

    • It cooled off during the second half of the week but warmed up over the weekend again and yesterday it was in the 70s. It’s supposed to be cloudy and rainy today then warm up again tomorrow.
Thanks. Yes, they all will have to admit what they want so they can have it. They’re getting there finally with where I am in writing it. 🙂
