Sunday Summary: On Fire

That title doesn’t only describe my writing progress this week. Yesterday morning we met some friends for breakfast. We’d been planning to go to Erie and get groceries and some other things. When we were in the parking lot ready to go home, the fire radio in our truck went off, calling the department my husband volunteers with to assist another local one(which is actually the one that handles where we live, but he was a member of the one in town well before we moved here and has stayed). Anyway, the address was for right behind our house. So, he dropped us at the end of the driveway and continued down to the fire. He was there for about five hours and said it was a total loss, but everyone got out okay.

Smoke from our porch

Taken walking up our driveway.

We did end up going to get groceries, just a lot later and closer than we’d planned.

The boy decided only playing with legos isn’t creative enough for him. he had to mix and match them together with his bumblebee transformer car.

As I said above, my writing progress has been on fire this week as well.

  • Primary: Heart of Christmas(BC Security 3.5) – write back stories, plot summary, and complete Story Toolkit – 1496 words on Alaina’s back story, 649 on Caelen’s back story.  13 paragraphs(hand-written)732 words on Brock’s back story. Short summary(1 sentence) written. Medium summary(1 paragraph) writtenLong summary(3 paragraphs) written. 3150 words so far this month
    • Alaina wants a future with Caelen but with someone interfering in their lives, this Christmas might be all they get. *rough, 1 sentence summary
  • Secondary: Still Burning(Hunter Family #4) – Brainstorm

  • Primary: Stay a Little Longer – add 45000 words/finish 38 scenes – 29656 words/45000, 29/38 scenes for the month. 9293 words/11 scenes this week. I wrote 5k on this just Tuesday morning. The words were definitely flowing.
    • Her chest felt like it ripped open as he turned and left. She wanted to call him back, wanted to apologize, whatever it took to keep another person from walking away from her. But, no, this was the right thing. The only thing she could do. She had to do whatever she could to be here for her kids.
  • Secondary: Side Projects – 5000 words, edit Chapter 1 of Patrick & Sarah & Chapter 1 of Tavin & Haiwee, read through 9 chapters of Snow White Twist(there’s actually 10, but I read through chapter 1 in February) – 3349/5000 words so far this month. 1014 this week. 63/63 comments applied to Patrick & Sarah & posted to Patreon. And sent chapter 2 to beta.  51/51 comments applied to Tavin & Haiwee, have read through 9/9 in Snow White Twist. and I already have one reader lined up for this. If any else would be interested in reading a f/f retelling of Snow White(about 21000 words), let me know. I should have it revised and ready by the end of the month. And I got ideas for 2 more stories. If you read Wednesday’s Wippet selection, you’ll probably know what one of them is. The other just popped into my head while waiting for the kids’ bus one day and won’t leave me alone now.
    • Midas’ Daughter – 235 words – “Yes, sir,” Flip said even as he felt like his insides were shredded. He’d wanted to see Calla again, but he could not be the reason his father’s world was destroyed even more. He’d have to stay away.
    • Patrick & Sarah – 123 words – “It was just a dream,” Sarah told the younger boy. “You know your brother would not do that. He is not a demon. It was just part of your dream.” *sure, Sarah, keep telling yourself that.
    • Tavin & Haiwee – 146 words – But, that did not answer his question. And the man spit more words out, but Haiwee only stood straighter. Tavin wished he knew what they said and could join in the conversation. If only to save Haiwee from some of the hatred Tavin could see on the man’s face.
    • Roman – 120 words – She shivered. He was so glad he could still make her do that, even after all this time. Even after what they’d just found out. That day they’d wed, he’d promised her love, a home, family. He’d given her as much of the first two as he could. But, the last…he’d failed there.
    • Dougal & Shae – 161 words – Shae walked into her older brother’s house and instantly felt a weight drop from her shoulder. She was amazed how it could do that. Even more than walking into her own–well, her parents’ really–home. Her sister-in-law, Chrissa, turned from the sink. Her eyes looked tired, and Shae saw dark circles under them.
    • Mason & Lila – 122 words – He smiled even though it hurt his face, and his heart a bit. “You’re going to get your big break as soon as we turn eighteen and leave me in the dust for Nashville, aren’t you?” *Actually it’s gonna happen before that. Sorry, Mason.
    • Jacob & Matthew – 79 words – But, if it ever came out into the open, they would be done for.
    • Hang On – 30 words – “I got distracted. It’s not a big deal.” Except I’d been getting distracted a lot lately. Mostly because of thinking about him. But, I wasn’t going to tell him that.

  • Primary: Stained Blood – 10 new scenes & apply CP edits to 40 scenes – 4/10 new scenes finished this month. 6/40 scenes edited. 3460 words added this month. 1902 this week.
    • “You aren’t…you’re not going to tell anyone. Are you?” His voice quivered as if he feared the answer to that.
“What would I tell them, Jacob?” he asked. “I don’t know a damn thing.”
  • Secondary: Flames of Renewal(if I get back from CP) – complete CP edits
    • In the Moonlight – start revisions

  • A-Z posts – draft 24 posts – 5/24 for the month. 666 words on E post. 894 words on F post. 708 words on G post. 2105 words this week. I’m going to draft a week’s worth then go back and edit them. Hopefully that way they’ll all be ready at least a week in advance.
  • A-Z posts – edit & format 27 posts – Edited 5/27(almost forgot about the theme reveal post) posts. A, B, C, & D are ready to go, other than adding link back to previous one), will schedule once my Theme reveal goes live.

  • Listen: 8 books – 3/8 for the month, 0 since last check-in
    • King’s Cage(Victoria Aveyard) – On Chapter 28. I only have about an hour left to listen to.
  • Read: 31 books – 16/31 for the month, 6 this week.
    • Crimson Stain(Jim Fisher) – this is a true crime story about an Amish man who killed his wife not very far from where we live(It happened when I was about 8 years old). Reading this when I finish the rest of the books on my weekly list. On page: 181/314(not counting all the end notes & index)
    • Hammer of the Gods(Christina Ochs) – this is book 3 in her Desolate Empire series. I got the boxed set, but I’ve already read the first 2 separately, so I jumped right to this one on my phone. I’ll read it in the between moments. I’m on Chapter 12/166(If I counted right. The chapters are labeled with POV characters’ names instead of numbers).
    • The Ranger(Monica McCarty) – Read this on Monday. Really enjoyed it.
    • Wanderlust(Roni Loren) – I started this one after setting several others aside(ones my MIL had given to me, and they just didn’t grab me). I’ve actually read it before when it was part of an anthology, but I’ll always re-read a Roni Loren book. I finished reading it last night. It was a pretty quick one, but just as good as I remember(though there was one detail I believe was changed).
    • First and First(Santino Hassell) – Finished this one Wednesday night. Loved it.
    • Fast Connection(Santino Hassell & Megan Erickson) – I loved this one, too.
    • Against the Edge(Kat Martin) – started this Thursday night. Enjoyed it.
    • Ever After(Kete Serine) – started this Saturday afternoon. Finished it Saturday night. Really enjoyed it.
    • The Beltane Kiss(Denise D Young) – Started this Saturday night. At 33%

  • Knit: Georgian Lace Cap – started this on Monday. Have 4/4 rounds knitted for the brim. 36/40 rounds knitted for cap lace section. Almost finished round 37 but ran out of yarn. I got more yarn yesterday, so I’ll be able to finish it.
  • Crochet: Cross-over Long DC Hat – started this one Wednesday afternoon. Have 17/28 rounds crocheted for hat.
  • Loom: Ambrosia Love Scarf & Last Minute Slouchy Hat – I finished the scarf on Sunday.

Comments on: "Sunday Summary: On Fire" (6)

  1. Wow! You really WERE on fire!

I got to 22/26 posts. Was sick on Friday, and the Stella removal took more time than I’d planned for (although it’s melting fast now that we’ve cleared the driveway and excavated both cars!)

Hopefully, I’ll be picking up some steam now that the snow is not an issue, and I’m feeling better!

So sorry about your neighbors’ house; but glad no one was hurt.

    • Hope you’re feeling better. And that you can pick up that steam.

      • Much better, thanks! As for the steam…I’ve been more inclined to putter than to delve, but I think that’s OK, and maybe just where I need to be for now. It often seems to go that way as I near the end of a novel.

  2. Looks like you were on fire for sure!

I’m sorry to hear about the neighbor’s fire but glad everyone made it out. How scary!

  3. Wow! Glad to hear everyone got out of the fire ok! I’m petrified of fire, so I would have been on the other side of town, probably crying.
    Amazing work this week!

    • I’ve grown up around the fire department. We used to live right next to the old station in my home town(it’s since moved locations), my uncle and several of mom’s cousins are in the fire department. And then I married into it as well.
