Home of a mother, wife, writer

“Where’s the ham?” Dani asked as she looked around the table. “We always have ham for Christmas.”

Declan laughed and set his hand on his stepdaughter’s head. “I told you some things might be different this year. We always had turkey for Christmas when we were here. But, I think…” He smiled as his aunt brought another platter into the dining room. “Aunt Eileen also made some ham.”

The grin that spread over the girl’s face made everything worth it. He always wanted to do whatever he could to keep it there. And he was glad he had his whole family around, at least through the holidays, to help with that. It had been a while since he had seen all of them, and he’d miss them again when it was time to return home. But, this vacation had been good. For all of them.

Really short one this time for Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This is sort of a continuation of one I wrote back in December. Still in pre-brainstorming mode for this possible novella.
