If you’ve been reading my ROW80 updates this round(and even some from last round), you know I’ve been looking for beta readers for my WiP, Slow Revenge. I think what I’m really looking for though is more of a critique partner(or two). A fellow writer that knows what to look for structure-wise: plot points, character arc, etc. And maybe someone I could bounce ideas off of if I get stuck. I’ll still want beta readers, but I’m thinking of those more as general readers that can tell me if the story flows right and if the characters are relatable/likeable.
Most of what I write is romantic suspense, probably leaning a little more toward romance. I don’t completely limit myself to that, as I also have a western novella currently in the editing stage. Slow Revenge is the first in a connected series. I wrote up a little blurb for it(and the 2 others in progress) here. As well as my other WiPs(that aren’t part of that series) here. That second one does include the link to the series, which I might change the name of as there aren’t any actual demons in the series.
If anyone is interested in reading Slow Revenge(or the others) or the first couple chapters at least(to see if it’s a good fit with you), you can leave me a message here, email me at: email@example.com or connect with me on Twitter(@frbrown906).
This week was a busy but good one. We had a picnic at my sister’s on Thursday. Yesterday we went to my husband’s aunt’s for another picnic. A lot of running around for the kids, swimming, good food, then about 8 o’clock it started pouring down rain. We figured fireworks were going to be cancelled. But, they still went off right at 10. Had a couple of cranky kids by the time we headed home. Of course, they’re usually in bed around 7. And the boy had not taken a nap since Tuesday. He did sleep a little during the party yesterday, and he’s taking a nap again this afternoon. So, hopefully this was just a short-lived nap strike and not the start of him giving them up completely. Neither of us is ready for that one. Of course, his older sister stopped taking naps right at 3 years old. When he was born. And he’ll be 3 in September. Hopefully this is the one thing he doesn’t do earlier than her.
Demons Rising: 7500 words: Done! I only managed about half of my daily goal on Thursday, but I wrote a little extra on Friday to make up for it. I ended up with 7598 for the week.
Find beta readers – Not done
Send out Slow Revenge – Not done either
Read through Stained Snow – Done! Finished this on Friday as well. And compiled my notes in the Scrivener project so I can start making changes next week.
Guarding the Heart: beat sheet– I had finished this on Monday.
Read: Alpha Moon (S.M. Reine), Not Until You Trust (Roni Loren), Flight (J.R. Pearse Nelson), Haedyn’s Choice (Jennifer L. Oliver): Done, by Friday again. And I read Forever Road by Catie Rhodes Friday and Saturday. And I started Divergent by Veronica Roth yesterday(at the picnic because I need some sort of escape from people even when I can’t actually get away from them apparently)
Knit: Broken Rib Toque – Done. Finally. considering I actually started it when there was still snow outside. It’s almost a little big for my daughter, but she should grow into it.
Crochet: Toddler Owl Hat – just started this afternoon. Have about half of the actual hat done. Will still have to do the ear flaps and decoration.
Made pretty good progress on my goals this week. My goals for next week are:
- Demons Rising: 7500 words
- Find beta readers/critique partners
- Send out Slow Revenge
- Stained Snow: Edit Chapters 1-5
- Guarding the Heart: blueprint
- Read: Divergent, Not Until You Beg(Roni Loren), & City of Bones(Cassandra Clare)
- Knit: newborn cardigan
- Crochet: Toddler Owl Hat
I’ve had a strong start to the week. Which is probably a good thing since tomorrow is a holiday, and my husband will be home until Monday. I tend to get less done when he’s around. Depending on the weather, we might go to a picnic tomorrow and I know we have a picnic on Saturday(when our neighborhood will be doing fireworks). Still going to try to meet my goals for the week though.
Demons Rising: 7500 words – 4815/7500. More than halfway there. I’ve been able to meet my 1500 word goal every day. Hoping to keep that up.
Find beta readers – not yet
Send out Slow Revenge- same as above
Read through Stained Snow – 7/15 chapters. Hoping to be through chapter 10 by the end of today.
Guarding the Heart: beat sheet – Done
Read: Alpha Moon (S.M. Reine), Not Until You Trust (Roni Loren), Flight (J.R. Pearse Nelson), Haedyn’s Choice (Jennifer L. Oliver) – 3/4 finished. 28% through Haedyn’s Choice. The first 3 were all pretty short, so easy to get through.
Knit: Broken Rib Toque – I’m about 1/3 of the way through the body of the hat. I was able to knit 7 rows the other night before my phone battery died(it’s an old Iphone that I really only use now for the knitting apps). I never got to it last night.
Crochet: Toddler Owl Hat- haven’t started on this one yet.
I’m on track with my writerly goals. Some of the others, particularly knitting and crochet, have a lower priority. So, I don’t always get to them. Still making progress though.
I made a lot of progress on my goals during the last round. I’m hoping for similar results this round. I may have quite a few of goals, but I plan on prioritizing them, just as I’ve been doing with my weekly goals.
Demons Rising: finish 1st draft(hopefully this month during campnanowrimo)
Guarding the Heart: Start 1st draft -shooting for 70k by the end of the round
Slow Revenge: send to readers
Stained Snow: Read through
Send to readers (if there’s time)
Guarding the Heart: finish plotting
Connie’s story (needs title): want to get most of this plotted by the end of the round, and wrap it up by the end of September.
Update blog pages
Post 3-4 times/week (not counting row80 check-ins
Make more of an effort to comment on posts
Read 20 books
