Writing Wednesday: NaNoWriMo Week 1

One week of November is down, well, not quite since it’s only afternoon on the seventh day, but close enough. After the lack of progress I was making on my other WiP, I was really afraid I’d lose steam on this one as well. But, I’m actually finding it easy to get my words in. Not stalling out or anything. So, that’s good so far. I know it may happen a little later in the month, but right now I’m happy with the progress I’m making.

WiPs:

I have written 6381 so far this week on Healing the Heart. Up to a total of 13152. According to NaNoWriMo’s site, I will be finished(with the first 50k anyway) by November 26. Then, I just have another 30-4ok to write. At least that seems to be where most of my first drafts seem to fall. The goal of 2000 words a day during the week and 1000 on weekends seems to be working for me. Probably won’t be home much this Saturday, so I might have to make up those words on Sunday if I don’t get to write. We’ll see though.

Haven’t added any new words to Flames of Redemption. Have been doing some research though. Hoping to get more confidence to know that I’m not screwing up details too bad once I’ve done more research. I really think that’s what’s been holding me back with this one.

Social Media:

didn’t post on Monday but did yesterday. I’ve replied to some blog posts this week. not sure if it’s been the five I shoot for each week, but probably at least 3 or 4.

Reading:

I finished reading Paradox last night. Haven’t started another one yet.

Health:

still haven’t started tracking food again. But, I did work out yesterday. It seems that I control my weight better as long as I at least exercise. If I track food but don’t work out, I don’t have good results. But, even if I don’t track but do work out, I seem to do better. So, I’m going to focus more on the working out. Not that I’m going to gorge myself either(at least not on a daily basis). Of course, I made this no-bake pumpkin pie dessert on Monday for my birthday and some more cake mix cookies. So the not gorging myself isn’t always an easy task. 🙂

Knitting Tuesday: Finishing

Finished:

Last week, I finished both the Fair Isle Hat and the Cowl/hood. It didn’t take me too much longer to do either.

Fair Isle Hat

hood

I’m glad to be done with that project. I started it back in September. Never expected it to take that long to finish.

In Progress:

I started making that Shimmer by Night bag, but ended up scrapping it yesterday. It called for some shimmery fine yarn, which I have never worked with before. I tried it out and it was almost as hard as knitting with super bulky yarn. plus I got it all knotted up when I was trying to find the center pull end and could not figure out how to unknot it. Ending up cutting out the knotted part, which seemed to be quite a bit of it. And at that point I just had no desire to continue. I may try it again at some point though.

I ended up starting a new baby bib instead of the coffee sleeve I was going to do. The design is by Elaine Fitzpatrick over at downcloverlaine.blogspot.com. I love her patterns. they always turn out really nice. This one is her Hay Baby Bib with a cow on it. I’m only about a quarter of the way through the main part of the bib right now.

I also started the next Cause hat even though I scrapped the last one because I didn’t like the way it was turning out. I also haven’t gotten too far on this one so no pictures yet. I do have the ribbing done and a little bit of the straight section. But there’s not much to show of it yet.

Coming Up:

Nothing planned yet. I’ll figure it out when I get a little closer to finishing these two projects.

Sunday Summary: Fall Back

We turned all of our clocks back an hour last night before we went to bed. As for the mythical extra hour of sleep? Yeah, didn’t happen here. At least not for me. My son used to be a really good sleeper, even after we moved him to a toddler bed(back at the end of August). Put him to bed, and he’d go to sleep, and most of the time sleep all night. But, in the last 2 weeks, something has changed. He won’t go to sleep at night. We’d been closing his door when wee put him to bed, but then he’d come over and lay right in front of it and fall asleep there. Then, we couldn’t open the door. So, I started leaving it open and put a baby gate across the doorway. Now, he stands there. Even when he’s practically falling asleep at the gate, he won’t go to bed. Unless we go in and sit beside his bed. It usually only takes him a couple minutes to fall asleep then. Last night though, it took closer to 45 minutes though. Every time I thought he was asleep and go to leave, he’d wake up. He finally fell asleep a little after 9. And woke up screaming at about 2 this morning. And it took almost an hour again before he finally fell asleep and stayed that way so I could go back to bed. And of course, my daughter was up at 5 wanting breakfast. As far as she was concerned, it was 6. And my son was back up around 6. Seriously, why can’t we just keep the time the same all year round? Anyways, my progress for this week:

Writing:

  • Write another 4000 words on Flames of Redemption

I only added 2858 words through the week. I was going to try to keep writing at least 500 words a day on this during November, but I decided writing on both wasn’t working for this month. What I do think I’m going to do is research more for this one until December. I found a book that should help with some of it. In December, I think I will try to write 1000 words a day on each WiP though. I know I can manage 2000 words a day when I don’t have the pressure of NaNoWriMo on me. 🙂

  • Write at least 6600 words on Healing the Heart

This one I have met. As of right now, I have 6771 words. My plan for this WiP is to write at least 2000 words a day during the week and at least 1000 a day over the weekend. So far my word counts look like this: Thursday – 2009, Friday – 2238, Saturday – 1006, & Sunday – 1518. I’ve achieved these word counts by doing #wordmongering sprints on Twitter. Writing for half an hour at a time seems to get me higher word counts then trying to write for a large chunk at a time.

Social Media:

  • Keep up on at least Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday blog posts. Monday & Thursday if I have time.

I’ve done this is as well. Put up my knitting progress on Tuesday, my mid-week check-in on Wednesday, & pictures from Halloween on Friday.

Reading:

  • Finish reading Damnation Marked

Finished this earlier in the week. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to when the next one comes out.

  • Read Uncontrollable by S. R. Johannes

Finished this Friday night. It took me a little while to get into it, but kept reading to see how she brought back the one character. Ended up enjoying it.  And I started reading Paradox by Claudia Lefeve. I’m currently 39% through it.

Health:

  • Workout at least 3 days

Only worked out 2 days. Walked on the treadmill Monday and did a boxing workout on the Wii on Friday.

  • Keep track of calories 5 days

Total fail on this one. But, I’ve tried not to get too off track with what I’m eating. Hard when there’s so much Halloween candy in the house.

Goals for next week:

  • Write another 12000 words on Healing the Heart(total= 18771)
  • Take notes on research for Flames of Redemption
  • Post on at least Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday. Monday & Thursday if I get a chance.
  • Finish reading Paradox
  • Start read Dirty Blood by Heather Hildenbrand
  • Workout at least 3 days
  • Keep track of calories 5 days

How is everyone else doing? Who all is participating in NaNoWriMo as well?

Photo Friday: Happy Halloween

Halloween was rather rainy here, but we still got the kids dressed up and went out. We didn’t hit too many houses, as it was wet and chilly out and Nathan was tired since he hadn’t taken a nap that day(or the rest of the week so far). He still did walk around to all of the houses we went to. Which I figured he would get tired and not want to walk. He proved us wrong though.

Last Thursday when she went trunk or treating with her aunt and cousins. It was warm then.
