Home of a mother, wife, writer

Still rolling right along with my goals. Writing out a daily to do list is really helping me. Love being able to cross items off the list. Even if I don’t get to everything. Still feels like I’m accomplishing something. And it helps keep me on track.

Be finished reading through Guarding the Heart(by 4/30)

Finished this on Friday(4/27).

Start rewrites

Got the sections marked in the first 2 chapters rewritten on Monday. These were mostly minor changes. So, it wasn’t too difficult. Ended up losing a total of 4 words between deleting and adding. And on Tuesday I got through the next two chapters. A lot more cutting here. I cut about 150 words from chapter 4. For the sections I’ve gone through so far, I’ve lost a total of 101 words. I know I’ll be adding more words in and cutting other ones, so I don’t know what this final total will look like.

Have through at least chapter 12 of Slow Revenge put into Storybook

I had through chapter 15 done by lunchtime Tuesday. Should have this completely done by Friday, then I can start adding the scenes into Scrivener. And Tuesday afternoon, I got the scenes for three more chapters put in. So, I’m up to chapter 18 now.

Write at least 1 more flash fiction piece

I wrote another one on Friday, and also one on Monday. Then, I signed up for the Story a Day in May challenge. I wrote my first story Tuesday morning, one that was just a little over 200 words. I think that may be my shortest one yet. And another one this morning. This one was a little longer, just over 400 words. I also set up a page on here as a place for these stories. Some of them will likely make it into my Short Tuesday posts as well.

Keep up to date with blog posts and comments

I have posted all of my scheduled days except for last Thursday. And that’s okay. I’ll leave that one open for if I have anything to post that doesn’t fit into any of the other days’ categories. That’s why it’s random. And I’ve been doing a better job of keeping up with the comments.

Be 50% through Sin(or have chosen a different one to read)

I finished reading it over the weekend. Still struggled with it but decided to push through and see if there was a story under all the rambling. I’ll just say that I was glad to be done with it. I guess it just wasn’t the story for me. I started reading another one, then realized it was actually the third book in the series, so set it aside until I can read the first two. Then I moved on to Nothing Stays in Vegas by Elana Aitken. Monday night, I stayed up about an hour later than I had planned to because I didn’t want to put it down. And last night, I was up until almost 11, but I finished it. I really enjoyed it. Now, I’m onto Seeds of Discovery by Breeana Puttroff. Haven’t actually started reading it, just opened it on my Kindle app.

Goals for next Check-in:

  • Have rewrites through Chapter 12 done.
  • Have the rest of Slow Revenge put into Storybook and start adding scene to Scrivener.
  • Keep up with Story a Day goal.
  • Keep up to date on reading blogs and replying to comments
  • Be 25% through Seeds of Discovery

How has everyone else done over the last week? do you have techniques that help you meet your goals?

One story a day in May? Oh, jeez, I would never be able to do that LOL
I like how you set up your goals for the next check-in … I go for big goals for the whole round … I might revise that ;)
Have a great rest of the week!

    • The stories are pretty short. I set a timer for 15 minutes and see what I can write in that time. Sometimes go a little over though.
      Thanks!

  2. Sounds like you’re doing great, Fallon!! Always on top of things :D I can’t believe you’re doing a story a day. I can’t even think that coherently hehe. Have a lovely rest of the week, and keep up the great work!

  3. Wow, you’re a busy bee, aren’t you? :) Good job on your goals and good luck the rest of the week!

I looked at that story a day in May thing, but I need to spend my writing time working on my WIP. If only I didn’t have this full time job…I could do SO many things…. *sigh*

    • Gotta keep myself busy or I probably wouldn’t know what to do. :)
I’m sure if I had a day job, I wouldn’t be able to get done nearly what I do. but, I’m home with the kids all day, so need to do something to keep me sane. :)

  4. Wow! Excellent stuff. I managed to keep myself from signing up for the story-a-day challenge (I’m in the final stages of a certification class–I knew it would be madness!) but couldn’t resist the story-a-week challenge. It’s so fun to know fellow ROW-ers are out there jumping into new things, too.

    • thanks for stopping by! Yeah, I can’t seem to resist a challenge. But at least it keeps me from getting bored.

  5. HEy Fallon, I considered the Story a Day in May challenge, but I really have to get my edits done and what with house guests taking great chunks of my time I really don’t think I could do it. But it sounds like a great practical writing practice challenge. Good luck with that. And well done on your goals too – I love the weekly thing, as appose to the whole round goals. X

    • Thanks for stopping by, Shah. If I keep to working on a story for just 15 minutes, it doesn’t take too much time away from getting my other goals done. And I find writing the short pieces to be quite fun. And sometimes challenging to keep them short.

  6. Sounds like you are going great! Good luck with the story a day. I admire anyone who can do that. I’m putting it on my calendar for next year and working up a list of ideas to cull from.

  7. A 200 short word story… I can see how the timer helps for that in a sense, but if I don’t give myself editing time, my shorts don’t look like much of anything. I’m impressed that you can pull out a whole beginning/middle/end and plot that fast. KUDOS!

As for the rest of your goals… You really do have amazing focus, Fallon. And you’ve made great progress too.

Do you post your StoryADay pieces here or on your page at the site? I didn’t “create” a blog on the site… and now I’m sort of ‘kicking myself” for it. Just curious if you did.
